having owned one of the ancient Beyers Dt48a
the hm5 really can rival it being just as sensitive to microdetail
and greatly neutral sound it is definitely a great pair to listen to
with or without amp this babies are truly worth their label as being monitors without a doubt. that said this pair is definitely not for bass heads and those with lousy equipment/recording do try to avoid them as it will show its ugly face
The sound is very clean and dynamic and the comfort is good too. This headphone is light and big enough for the comfy using. I'm very satisfied with it. And for this price is a no brainer.
I got the headphone for $31 from MP4Nation. The packing is good and the build quality is really amazing when I compared to other brands I owned in this price range (Sony, Philips, Sennheiser and Koss).
Comfort:
The head phone is a bulky one; however, it is of light weight. I think some people may find it uncomfortable to because of it's size.
The headphone has size adjustment feature that will help for different head sizes.
Sound
The sound has a good detail with more emphasis on highs and felt the bass is not heavy and bass heads may not like this. However, I guess an amp may solve the issue. The mids were sweet.
The sound leaks a lot even at 30% of volume. Other than this the sound quality is great for the price tag.
If you like analytical sound for long time listening you can consider HM3.
Happy Reading...
These are my first pair of good headphones and I just love em.
Initial impression:
I didn't get that amazing wow factor when I first put them on.....probably because they aren't the most comfortable out there but good enough. If you have a kinda small (well shaved) head like mine it takes time to get that sweet spot.....might as well change the padding.
Once I got my sweet spot (and 2hrs burn in later) I can confidently say I love em!
Comfort:
You can hardly feel these things on your head because they're super light. I got used to the padding after a lot of adjustment and can now wear them for 1hr straight without many complaints. Pressure on your head is just enough for me...
Sound Preview:
I first tried them directly on my pc and they sounded like crap.....but on my nokia E72 its like a whole different set. Clearly your music player really matters when using these.....personally i'll save for a fiio e6 amp. I tested them on a flat eq setting on my phone and......read on.
Bass:
The HM3 can easily thump sub frequencies without much effort. Again the padding seems to let out a lot of sound due to sealing but the signature is not completely lost. You can still enjoy your music......very much.
Vocals and Highs:
I think this is a strong point of the HM3. The highs are very clear.....never overwhelmed by the bass like some of my previous sets.....and not too high to become irritating at any point.
Vocals are neutral and balanced.....i really don't have any other words to describe this.
Soundstage:
Sound stage is really good........as in you think someone may be calling you wide.........or something just moved behind me wide.....rock people will love this set.
That reminds instrument separation will make you smile.....really accurate. But not as good as some headphones I've tested before.....
Final words:
I'm barely an audiophile but not new to both the good, bad and the extremely crappy products of the industry but I find the HM3 quite exceptional. Build quality is something only time can tell.......1star for the comfort.....
Very detailed, you can make out all the different sounds making up what you're hearing.
Sound stage is huge for a closed can! Used it during battlefield 3 and wow the directional cues and distances are amazing. May be due to a bit of a "cave" sounding effect that these cans have though.
The bass is there, subtle but there. it isn't as punchy as the CAL! but it's there when it's called for. Maybe a longer burn-in will help.
Comfort-wise, the clamping is tight, but oddly, it's not uncomfortable. I think the pads that came with it have enough soft cushioning to offset the tight clamping.
Overall, amazing cans for the price!!
Well this headphone worth every penny. It is balanced, a little bit on the north side with amazing soundstage for a closed phone. Sound is very detailed and natural, bass is extend and very well textured. Works very well with every music genres you trow in. Overall pure pleasure for the ears. Very recommended if you wanna experience high end sound for a fraction of the price. The clamp force is a bit tight, but will lose after stretching and get very comfortable. Highly recommended .
Although these sound great for the price, I can barely tolerate wearing them. My biggest issue is the ear cup angle is not adjustable, causing them to dig in under the ears. No matter how I adjust the ear cups position on the headband, or how I angle the headband, they are uncomfortable because of ear cups putting most of their pressure under the ear/top of the jaw, and almost not touching the head above the ear. Also the clamping force is slightly too high, and the padding is too thin and hard, getting hot quickly. They are slightly too big for on the ear, and slight too small for around the ear wearing.
