Although my mod ideas wouldn't change any of the electronic hardware on the device itself, just replace the buttons and build a new chassis. I'm not saying it would be easy, but it is possible. The reason I thought of this in the first place is because I plan on using the QT1106 chip,

for one of my own projects. The only problem the only package style it comes in is a 32-pin QFN, which is 5x5mm surface-mount and all the pins are on the bottom of the package

I just received a few free sample chips (MAXIM 6972A and 1584E) in the same package to practice soldering the chip.
I won't post about this anymore because it is more appropriate for the modding section, and I'm not going to try it unless I somehow get my hands on a second player or the case on this one busts.
