flash based players are the least prone to going bad, while HDD players are more easily damaged than flash memory. Flash memory has no moving parts, but HDD players do.

thats true, i didnt consider the moving parts. personally, more spac eis always nive, but as long as i have at least 2 - 6 gigs, i can always find a way to squeeze a ton of stuff on my player. my little cheap mp4 i have now runs like a champ, although the USB connection is SLOW when tranferring files, that's my only real complaint about it

i still go for flash players...

since flash players have no moving parts,

it is less likely to break/malfunction when you accidentally drop your player, compared HDD...

i also believe the life of flash memory is longer...

Until Flash players get higher capacity. HDD players still have there place. And HDD technology has improved from the past. Becoming smaller in size and durability. But definately the future is all about flash unless some new technology comes along

these are really two very differnt animals

flash based players, by comparison are very expensive against a HDD based player.
but their intention is really yo be smaller and more portable, whilst a ipod video ain't exactly huge it is alot easier to put a small flash player in your pocket.
but things are changing and we are demanding larger screened players based on the flash memory - so we are ending up with players that are as big as the ipod video with less capacity (and smaller price tag).

i would like a HDD player just to be able to have all my collection in one place but i think i prefer the non-mechanical use of flash based players, any how 17GB flash based players may soon be within reach, couple this with 4/8gb memory cards and thats enough for me
