I don't know what other problems people have but my VX777LE always worked on XP and Vista. Had it connected to lots of different PC's/Laptops (home, work and friends) running different flavors of XP and Vista and never had any problems.
Previous poster who mentioned possible cable issue could be right...

check:

1. The usb cable, try a different cable to rule out faulty cables
2. Try connect through USB slots on the back of your PC and not front
3. Try connecting via a USB hub
