Dear Bryce
I'm currently in a very committed internet relationship with a woman from Russia. We have shared all the intimate details of our lives with each other by email. And I'm thinking its time we met in real life. Should I make the trip to Russia?
P.S. I'm also afraid that she may really be a man.
Depends on where in Russia. The city s/he lives in probably reflects the type of character you're dealing with.
If s/he lives in Moscow - no. Moscow sucks. I've been there. It's dirty, bleak, and not fun. Perhaps your "friend" would be similar.
St. Petersburg - absolutely. Gorgeous, romantic, and poetic. S/he is likely to be the same.
Irkutsk - yes. And adventurous, outdoorsy, fun place to be. Right on the shores of Lake Baikal. S/he would likely be the fun and recreational!
Vladivostok - iffy. An outpost and fishing town. S/he probably smells of fish.
You need to ask him/her more questions for me to decide such an important decision for you!
Hi Bryce
Thanks for answering my question. Glad to hear you've been to Moscow. Was it really that bad? I was thinking of stopping there on my trip to Russia. I thought it would be good for culture and history. Any nightlife?
As for your analysis by city... My woman lives in Novosibirsk. Good luck finding that! Wikipedia says... Novosibirsk is Russia's third-largest city, after Moscow and Saint Petersburg,The city was founded in 1893 as the future site of the Trans-Siberian Railway bridge crossing the great Siberian river Ob, and was known as Novonikolayevsk after Saint Nicholas.
She hates it there but then who wouldn't hate living in Siberia. I live in California for comparison.
So what type of questions should I ask to find out more about the situation I could be getting into?
