Upon plugging my 787 Windows doesn't recognize it at as a removable storage device. I have tried 3 different computers (2 vista, 1 xp) with two different usb cables. Nothing is showing up under device manager either. On each machine the first time I plugged in the unit it installed rockchip drivers, and the player always shows a charging state, so connection seems to fine. The player is able to play all the samples fine, and can play things off a SD card.

Tried playing around with the translated version of the Onda firmware repair tool, but it always failed and told me to replug connection.

Not sure what to do at this point.

Hi.. I just received my VX787 and it also is NOT being recognized by Win XP Professional. Sometimes it's recognized and some files are installed, Rock-something, I can't recall the files, but MOST times I get a message saying "USB Device Not Recognized" and when I manually try to install the driver (Jz4740_usb) with the provided CD, I get the message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". The unit is charging with each USB connection, so that means there is a connection, but it's not recognized.

What do I do? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

When plugging in the USB cable to the player you have probably noticed that it is not a very tight fit, this is due to the bevel in the casing and the actual socket is deeper than the top edge of the player.

Can you try holding the usb plug into the player and with a slight pressure towards the rear of the player, this should cause the player to display the USB screen and then shortly after you should hopefully see the player in Windows.

When the plug is not fully home only the two power pins connect as they are closer to the edge of the plug.

Please try this and let me know how you get on.

I attempted to plug in the USB cable about 10 times in various ways, with slight pressure forward, backward, and sideways. I got the same message always... USB Device not recognized.

Very frustrating. :?

ADDENDUM - because u mentioned the loose connection, I attempted to use the USB cable I have from an external harddrive and it was a tighter fit and on the first computer connection, the CPU recognized it... so I'll keep you updated on the progress..

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Try re-booting Windows and plug it into a different USB socket if possible.

The other cable worked perfectly.. now it connects immediately. Just one more question.. why does the computer install Rockchip files with each connection?

Thank you so much..

Not sure what's going on there, Windows should not require any files as it is only a mass storage device.

The only time it should need drivers installed is when you are using Windows 98 or if you are using the recovery tool which opens up the hidden firmware partition.

If it did need the drivers installed then installing them once is all that is needed, is there a chance you did not install them correctly?

Yeah I noticed the connection was kind of loose, have been trying applying pressure. Ended up trying a third usb cable and that seems to do the trick

Thanks for the help.
