Thanks to everyone who helped my upgrade the teclast firmware to 2.0, I now have a new theme install and am very happy. The question I have is that I read on this forum that you can expand the players video support (apple .mp4 for example) by installing more codecs onto the player. Is this true? and if so, how do you do it?

Thanks

well the lastest firmware did come with some new ones a standard, so if you updates you have them

but you are right about 1 codec that was present in the firmware but the codec file was not in the firmware folder , cant remember which one now, it may have been mp4, can not quite remember

does anyone have tht file for download?? .. its completely gone out of my head :)

found them

viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4852&p=43661&hilit=3gp#p43661

they are
rk_h263.bin
rk_mp4v.bin

to install these you will need to copy either the rkusb.tag file or the teclast.sys file to the root of your player to access the hidden partition
when you have done that copy and paste the 2 files into the SYSTEM and SYSTEM00 folders

not sure how well they work though, when you get them in let us know if they do any good

thanks for locating those files for me...I'll let you know how they work out after I find a computer with XP, I use a mac and I'm a little nervous about tweaking things on it from what I've read.

The codecs work perfect, I don't know why they were not included in the last firmware version ?

I see Raz will be uploading new firmware on Monday, you may want to check that out first although it is a lot easier just copying the codec across. ( on an XP box )

I may have to wait until Monday.

But, are these codecs included on that firmware update?

I installed these codecs, but I'm not sure what they did. I tried to play an .mp4 file one with H.264 encoding and one not and neither played. I got a file format error. I noticed that one of the codecs say h263...whats the difference? I'll have to try an xvid next, because those didn't play before either, just pure divx files. thanks again though.

if you have files with an xvid extension or an divx extension try rename them to an avi extension, this should work, as for MP4 files, i dont know about those
