Hello All

Well, my new found addiction meant I couldn't resist, so I got myself a T8.

Now these are my very early impressions - I have a 767 and RM970.

Firstly, its form factor is much better than the 767 - I could actually foresee having this in my pocket, although it would still be bulky.

The interface is quite clean, and the touch sensitivity works pretty well, but could be more sensitive - may just take time to get used to, or indeed may have been tweaked in a firmware revision - I might add that I have no idea where I'll find firmware upgrades as I can't read Chinese (any assistance would be appreciated if anyone can give me a link!).

I threw an unconverted Seinfeld, and it was out of sync. I threw some converted moveis (video bitrate around 800), and it played beautifully - reasonable sound from the two stereo speakers built in, although at max volume, there was slight distortion. I was able to fast forward to any spot and lip sync was retained.

Now changing the aspect ratio is another story - I can't read the manual, but there seemed to an icon relating to stretching or reducing the screen when first playing a file - sadly, that didn't work (the 767 does an excellent job with that stuff). May well be a bug in the firmware I am guessing, which will hopefully be fixed.

All in all, very good first impression save for what I expect are minor firmware bugs - I think this player has great potential and would be my pick of the current 4.3 inchers.

Will pop back again when I've had a chance to do more testing (lousy study and work will get in the way however! :-)

Hi centrlink,

Can you please explain what you mean by "unconverted Seinfield"? What file format are you referring to? Does that "uncoverted" file play well in Onda VX767? Just wonder if that is a general problem or specific to T8 only...

BTW, how does the T8 screen display look comparing with the 767? And what is the max internal memory on the T8? I read from some place that it has up to 32GB internal memory. Not sure if the info is correct...

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing that review. Just a question, how easy is the screen to use with your fingers, i am not talking about the overall sensitivity, but in relation to the icon size for movie and audio player. Seen a video review of it in action and the forward, rewind, play, pause etc look small and more designed for stylus use than fingers.

The icons are in the main big, and pretty easy to navigate through, although the smaller ones down the bottom when you play a file are pretty small and can be a bit fiddly. What is not so good is the scroll bar - that is pretty "insensitive" and requires a firm thumb slide to move it - that could certainly be fixed up. Overall, though, I have found navigating really easy and am quite impressed.

The fast forward and rewind is really responsive - you just tap a spot on the "timeline" where you want it to go, and it goes straight there, and has kept in sync for the files I have tested.

I think the screen is a little "washed out" compared to the 767 - in bright ambient light, it is not as good - I am guessing that might be due to the touch screen.

By "unconverted" I meant a video file with a bitrate around 1200 or so - I tried a movie with a high bitrate and it worked much better than it would on the 767 - but you could still notice a slight "jittering". Videos I've converted for the 767 seem (at least by my first impression) to look a little less pixelated and smoother.

Once I've given it a really solid workout, will let you know about battery life etc, and what settings I've found produce good results.

All in all, seems a quality product - I guess Ramos will build itself into a pretty reliable brand.

Thanks mcm, you're a champ!!!

Got it, updated it, and the touch sensitivity is markedly improved. Phew! :-)

Will test some more and see if anything else of note has changed.

centrlink: Congrats on your new player, and thank you for your review! Its good to get a first hand impression of this player, as the YouTube video reviews are very impersonal and not very helpful (I think). I'm also glad to hear the firmware update has fixed some bugs! Well, I'm looking forward to more of your impressions as you get to put it through its paces a bit more.

I guess I will be the first to be a nudge: Raz, anything going on with the unbranded version  ?
