Maderin1, IT WORKED!
You're awesome! Thanks! I'm so happy!
The seller never answered my firmware request.
I tried various button tries, but no good.
I then put that tag file on the player and windows found a 3rd drive (1st is the player 8GB, 2nd for microSD and 3rd the SWEET hidden directory!!)
It did the "found new hardware" bubble popping thing and I watched in explorer as 2 then 3 then 2 then 2 drives would appear until it eventually settled to the 3!

That is so cool!
So right away I copied all the folders in that drive (APPDATA, RESOURCE, SYSTEM, SYSTEM00, RKFSWFRC.FRC) and of course BMP0.BIN is in RESOURCE/BID.
I assume I don't need an image creating flash backup tool like when you do for cellphones, correct? Just the copy and paste to my hd to backup is fine?
Ok, now I'm really itching to get an ipod theme on there!
The instructions I followed from user sflo worked to the point of them mentioning replacing the bin with their theme bin. But of course, that's all for sflo and not VX747 and clones.
Another user made some nice ipod themes for the vx747.
But it's just an "ipod" folder with a bunch of .png files, nothing more.
Can someone PLEASE help in how I get this theme on the player or if they can find a bin ipod theme for the vx747 that I can just easily replace the old bin per sflo's instructions?!
BTW, when I don't need to access the hidden drive, do I just remove the file (or put it elsewhere on the player in case I'm on the road and need to move it back to root) and all will be well. I'd assume leaving it there would mean the 3rd drive would be shown everytime. Not necessary. Or is it a mod type thing that in order to use added files, you need to keep it on the player? (doubt it though).
PS, will be ordering an ipod mini battery to put in this. I tried my cell battery but it was 5mm thick, bit too thick. Supposedly the ipod mini I found is 3.2mm! And the original in the player is 3mm. That should work. Also, the seller claims 900mah!!! I wonder!
Ok back to searching the forum for the ipod theme. I hope someone can help me on this.
Thanks for all the help.
It feels good to now have my player's original firmware so I can tweak whatever.
I will probably try adding one of the official Onda FW's and see if I can get more video formats to play.
Oh wait, one more thing - this is very important. Now that I have a copy of those folders and the 48MB Bin, if I happen to brick the player, can I do a restore with just that Bin? (ie it will reconstruct those folders).
I don't think I'd be able to add that rkusb.tag file to root and have it show the 3rd drive in order to copy the folders there if the player is bricked. But maybe so.
Thanks again!
