Maderin1, IT WORKED!

You're awesome! Thanks! I'm so happy!

The seller never answered my firmware request.

I tried various button tries, but no good.

I then put that tag file on the player and windows found a 3rd drive (1st is the player 8GB, 2nd for microSD and 3rd the SWEET hidden directory!!)

It did the "found new hardware" bubble popping thing and I watched in explorer as 2 then 3 then 2 then 2 drives would appear until it eventually settled to the 3! ;)

That is so cool!

So right away I copied all the folders in that drive (APPDATA, RESOURCE, SYSTEM, SYSTEM00, RKFSWFRC.FRC) and of course BMP0.BIN is in RESOURCE/BID.

I assume I don't need an image creating flash backup tool like when you do for cellphones, correct? Just the copy and paste to my hd to backup is fine?

Ok, now I'm really itching to get an ipod theme on there!

The instructions I followed from user sflo worked to the point of them mentioning replacing the bin with their theme bin. But of course, that's all for sflo and not VX747 and clones.

Another user made some nice ipod themes for the vx747.
But it's just an "ipod" folder with a bunch of .png files, nothing more.

Can someone PLEASE help in how I get this theme on the player or if they can find a bin ipod theme for the vx747 that I can just easily replace the old bin per sflo's instructions?!

BTW, when I don't need to access the hidden drive, do I just remove the file (or put it elsewhere on the player in case I'm on the road and need to move it back to root) and all will be well. I'd assume leaving it there would mean the 3rd drive would be shown everytime. Not necessary. Or is it a mod type thing that in order to use added files, you need to keep it on the player? (doubt it though).

PS, will be ordering an ipod mini battery to put in this. I tried my cell battery but it was 5mm thick, bit too thick. Supposedly the ipod mini I found is 3.2mm! And the original in the player is 3mm. That should work. Also, the seller claims 900mah!!! I wonder!

Ok back to searching the forum for the ipod theme. I hope someone can help me on this.

Thanks for all the help.
It feels good to now have my player's original firmware so I can tweak whatever.
I will probably try adding one of the official Onda FW's and see if I can get more video formats to play.

Oh wait, one more thing - this is very important. Now that I have a copy of those folders and the 48MB Bin, if I happen to brick the player, can I do a restore with just that Bin? (ie it will reconstruct those folders).

I don't think I'd be able to add that rkusb.tag file to root and have it show the 3rd drive in order to copy the folders there if the player is bricked. But maybe so.

Thanks again!

good work
as for the theme, the player works totally different to the proper ingenics based vx747 so their mods wont work

what you have to do, and as you are the only one with this player, is create your own theme as every player is individual, so flo themes wont work on this and vica vesa

as long as you have the BMP0 file you can use the rkuiedit program from rockchip to replace the image and create your own theme

basically you need to get some icons you like, make them the right size for the players icons and save them as 32bit BMP images and them replace the default ones

once done just open the hidden partition again and copy the altered BMP0 file onto the player, overwriting the original, restart and all will be done

as for the tag file, does no harm to keep it on, but just i would rename it when not in use for safety, in case you accidentally delete files etc, keep the partition hidden if not using it

bricking the player should not happen but ALWAYS keep a copy of ALL the files in the partition safe, there are tools and tricks that can be done to fix the player, but these new rocks are quite sturdy so we will cross that bridge as and when

REMEMBER

DO NOT LOAD ANY BMP0 FILE ON THIS PLAYER - ONLY YOURS WILL WORK

Thanks for the very fast reply! Nice and helpful again!

I'll get going on doing my own mod. ;)
I have the folder of ipod png's from another user. I'll look into my bin and precisely investigate the exact dimensions, format, file size, etc of the original icons and make the ipod ones to reflect the originals characteristics.

And now that you've shed light on the specificity of my player, I surely WILL NOT add any other bins!!! Not even the Onda vx747 despite my player simply looking like the Onda, of course, it is a different chip!

BTW, when I was bidding on this player, there were tons of them by the same description up for auction and many people bidding, so I'm sure soon enough there'll be more people reporting they have this "Ballet" player.
Maybe I should rar up those folders and upload it somewhere in case one of these other owner's bricks their Ballet. :? :

Well, I've got some work to do. Over the next week sometime as I am busy.

Also still looking to where I can get a silicon case for this VX747 clone like the one that usually comes with it. This player is narrower and thinner than iphone or ipod touch.

Thanks again for the help!

PS, I'm searching the net and can't find "rkuiedit".

I came across this:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-logo-editing-logodiy-23-english-vt6928.html

Where they mention an app, LogoDIY. I wonder if it's the same type of thing as you mention with the rkuedit. I can find no info on rkuedit!

Cool page here too (vx9__ series Onda's):
http://bbs.lcu.cn/viewthread.php?tid=16130

Thanks. :D

well upload the BMP0 so i can take a peek for curiosity,

also not just ballet, i know of several places seling this player with no brand name at all already and many wil be confused with the vx747, ut it wont even accept the 747 firmware so no way in bricking them

i will upload the editor again for you to download and take a look at the images

Where to upload? I don't see an option for this forum and I only have an online photo storage acct.

PS, to the site creator: At the store page, left column, the batteries category should be spelled "batteries" and not "batterys". Just a friendly input.

Not good with winrar and "best" setting. The 48MB bin became 11MB. Higher than the 10MB email file attachment.

So I used 7z and "ultra" setting.
Got a 7.7MB.7z.

I'll email it to you now. Let me know how it works out.

PS, if other "Ballet" vx747 clone users, or myself, brick the player, can we restore from that BIN alone? Or do we have to somehow copy over all those folders I referenced earlier?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I've got it open now and it looks pretty easy.

I see the various background images with the icons (as selectable in the player as "desktops"), so I can just make one 400x240 screen just like one of those, blk background and the ipod icons in position and replace one of those backgrounds and should be able to select it in the player.
I don't see separate icons in this file. That's ok, just makes it easier.
I created a blk background to take the place of some of the startup, shutdown, battery charging images because there are too many and I can't delete them, so just replace them.

I am replacing the battery charging with "liquid" I found on the forum from dude0316. Pretty straight forward.

There's also a bunch of chinese backgrounds that you don't even see in the player. But I don't see a delete, so they'll be staying.

Ok, back to work.

PS, you should have rcvd the email by now so you can have a peek too.

Thanks.

oops, wait a minute, there ARE a bunch of smaller files! I selected the box for under 320x240. Ok, have some work to do!

edit to update:
After some more minutes looking through, there are A TON of images that are not even on the player! And I still don't see actual icons, so it may just be easy to create and replace a background image with the ipod icons in it.

But what struck me quite interestingly was a small logo for 16bit NES and I see some other game images! I'm thinking this player may be able to be hacked to run NES roms somehow! That'd be cool!

Ok, back to work.
