Just got an email notice about some new Android smartphones on MP4Nation.

Cubot A6589S Android 4.2 Smartphone MTK6589 Quad Core 5.8" HD Screen - Black/Grey

I'm starting this thread about the Cubot A6589S. I'm kind of interested in upgrading my T-Mobile phone to a bigger screen Android smartphone. I'd like a bigger screen for watching movies, web browsing and playing games. This may be an alternative for me instead of getting another T-Moble phone with a 2 year contract. I'd like to just take my sim card out of my phone and put it in one of these.

So had anybody tried using one of these Android phones in the US using T-Mobile?

never heard of cubot - this sound HUGE - lol, would you really want something this big, surely its not convenient

these new phones are interesting but they are still quite pricey but are bigger in screens i suppose, for me 4" is enough, my daughter has the Huawei g300 and its a cracker, perfect size - each to their own i suppose

something here regarding the non-s version
Cubot A6589 MTK6589 Quad Core Smart Phone 5.7 Inch HD IPS Screen 1G RAM 8G ROM Android 4.1 - Android Forums

not sure what the difference is

cheers

Can these phones work as a player with no sim card? Just want something similar to my galaxy player 4. I am sure wifi would still function.

well all you need to do is slap in a random free pay-as-you-go-sim and never use it, dont even need to put any money on it, then you can use it as normal and ignore the phone functions, but battery is something you may need to consider if this is to be more of a media player than a phone, i suppose if you turn off all the phone signals etc that may save battery

my worry is the power and RAM in that, only 256mb may be limiting, but you would need raz to do a video review and test for you :)

just watched a vid and does not seem too bad, seems better than my current phone but mines old and clogged with crap and slow and laggy, but on the face it seems it may do the job for you

They can all function without a sim card, you would just get a small icon in the status bar showing the sim card not being present.

Looking at the AnTuTu benchmark, it should be OK. I think this is more memory and RAM than my Corepad 7.

Memory size (availability/total)
886.9 / 1008.3 MB

RAM size (available/total)
496.6 / 971.7 MB

SD card size (available/total)
1835.1 / 1838.7 MB
