Well that sounds pretty good, Dragon.

I'm interested in PDF viewing and movie watching and on this 8" will be perfect (10" is too pricey and the resolution is not that better plus the bigger size will fill my work bag)

Meanwhile I'll stick to my Rocktab which does half of my needs pretty well (SD video playing) and holding the battery alright.

Probably in a few weeks time this U23GT will see a price drop or some kind of sale and I'll jump in.

couple things

as ever rockchips battery management and monitoring leave alot to be desired, im not convinced the battery indication is in any way correct as it shot down to 52% quite fast, and has now slowed down to almost standstill even though i have been donwing and testing games and all sorts

calendar would not work (the only reason for this tabs existence !!) and had to down a missing file from slatedroid (Ramos w17 Pro Cortex A9 Dual Core AML8726-MX new firmware ROM - SlateDroid.com) so many thanks to that site for having the file there, after that all is well

Why am I not surprised....at least theres a fix for it. Im getting a bit tired of China tabs ,for lack of a better word, uncompleteness...Im staying with the big guns(Nexus) for a bit,Ive earned a break...

A time old battle, RK have never released the source code for any of the products, even back in the MP4 player days.

D2K i don't blame you for your weariness from China tabs, at the low pricing for the nexus and kindle tabs i too would recommend to get one of those over the china tabs if you have access to them. Between the flaky firmware and dodgy screens i am now seeing, i really do not see the China tabs getting any better, i kind of see them cutting corners even more now that there are big brands selling tablets for a lower price.

That's too bad. For a long time, I've had an interest in Chinese devices from Ainol, Onda, Teclast, etc. I really preferred the MP4 players a few years ago, while frustrated w/ the lack of music features like sorting. The build it, sell it, and forget it mentality is what drew me to English language forums to weed through all the crappy devices to find a good one that had the features I wanted. Moving to Android hasn't improved their attitude in supporting their tablets. Right now I see the biggest problem is the Android implementation. I am so grateful to the guys and gals at Slatedroid for working on custom roms.

However, I can testify to the value of buying one of the big three value mainstream tabs (Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, and soon to be released Nook HD). At $200, it really challenges the market for Chinese tabs. TBH the main reason I bought my Coretab was because it was on sale for closer to $100.

Well...despite the fact that I could get a dud.....I ordered a U30GT today. I got my hands on a nexus 7 this morning and was underwhelmed to say the least.
The screen was a bit blurry . Wally World let us try it out with a sample unit on display, I gladly passed it by. Heres hoping for the best with the 30 GT.

if your Nexus 7 screen is blurry, then exchange it. i wanted to buy the 32gb version and finally after the 3rd one i asked for a refund because i had dead pixels screen problems. Screw Best Buy, i don't trust them anymore, and the supervisor was almost giving shit to me because of the many returns. i heard Staples aren't like that at all, and that's probably why the nearest Staples around me are all sold out on Nexus 7 tablets.

But apart of the dead pixels, the screen wasn't blurry, in fact i found it better, and the fact it's actually a glass on the front (Corning Fit Glass, don't look on the Corning website, they don't have one for this), it might be afingerprint magnet, but it feel nicer. Right now i'm trying to get one used on a website (called Kijiji) that was used from a few days to 1 month, so i'll be sure it won't have any stupid screen problem, because they get screen problems from the beginning or after a few hours of use most of the time.
