haven't done the internal cable mod... just did the external cable using canare cable and alo audio 6.5 jack.. will post pic... soon...

let's just say I have not missed the the sound without the wood cups... soundstage is wider, vocal become sweeter, bass has more presence and the cable mode just make the sounds clearer.. as far as for weight. it is abt heavier however i did manage to use it in a 7 hour fligths and enjoying it tremendously..

so noticeable changes in sound is putting it mildly..

Very nice looking cables. We're testing some wood headphones too and got to say the wood does help with the sound quality.

@Raz what kind of wood ? I tried it with merbau wood, and the sound of hm5 become very intimate and warm.. very ideal for a vocal lover.. the treble got abit too soft however the overall presentation is still awesome.. a friend even mentioned it sounded similar to hd650. I can send you some samples I have.. if you wanna tinker with your hm5
