My name is among those listed and carried on NASA's Martian rover, Curiosity. I signed up with NASA on its Mission Participation page several years ago. NASA sent me by email a participation certificate which I posted on my photo page on a site called Communities.com. NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission is preparing to set down a large, mobile laboratory - the rover Curiosity - on August 6, 2012.

There are 529,386 US names and at world wide total of 1,246,445 names cared on the the Martian Rover, Curiosity. Here is the NASA link to see the world wide totals by nation:
Mars Science Laboratory: World Participation Map

BTW, my name was also on a compact disc carried on the impactor spacecraft that crashed on Tempel 1 on the NASA mission, "Deep Impact Discovery Mission to Comet Tempel 1". My name was on also NASA's Dawn spacecraft which investigated the asteroid belt.

Forget about taking pride in being an international traveler. Try being a spaced traveler like me. I am a bit weary of all this travel so you might say that I am "spaced out".

The point is be a part of what is going on in history in a fun type of way. How many people can actually say their name is being carried into space on a NASA mission  ? Also, the point is akin to the opening lines of the TV series, "Star Trek": to explore strange new worlds ; to seek out new life and new civilizations ; to boldly go where no man has gone before ." - Captain James Tiberius Kirk :p

Remember I am not the only 'nut case' in the world to do this. There were 1,246,444 other names world wide also carried on the the Martian Rover, Curiosity. I intend to sign up for other NASA mission should they become available. I placed the link to that NASA site should others wish to have fun and participate in future NASA space missions. I hope, Angelo, you join me and others in space the next time ;) .

Hi Raz,

Here is the link where I signed up for the Mission to Mars: Mars Science Laboratory: Send Your Name to Mars

You have to navigate the site and check from time to time to see when they are looking for participants to sign up for future missions.

For anyone interested, there will be another Mars mission scheduled to launchMarch 8 - March 27, 2016 and land on Mars September 20, 2016. It is called InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) . It is a proposed NASA Discovery Program mission that will place a single geophysical lander on Mars to study its deep interior. There is no information so far about the possibility of getting one's name on a microchip that might be aboard that Martian craft. I wrote to NASA and here is the reply:
"The mission is still awaiting selection
Till then we are all waiting before any announcements may be made

Insight EPO"

Here is the NASA link to the Insight Mission:
