The HM5 are better for no amp

I definitely disagree with this statement. I use both the HM3 and HM5 regularly(during the same day I will use both) and while BOTH really should be amped, even more so for the HM5.

We all have different experiences, but I found the HM5 easier to drive than the HM3. Either way it seems silly to spend $50 or $120 on headphones and not spend $25 on an E6 or $50 on an E11. In my opinion and based on what I own I think the best combination is the HM5 and E11. That would cost you $170. That's the most out of the HM3/5 or E6/11, but it also gives you the best sound and the added cost is more than worth the better sound (to my ears).

The television is just a passthrough for my xbox and ps3 (only used to change the volume levels) it has some settings like trubass, but they seem to make it sound worse so it is disabled.) , both have pretty good sound quality. They playbook has a very good DAC way better than the ios devices. I mostly want a pair of headphones I can plug in and not worry about eq settings or crackling sounds. and to give my ears a break from in ear headphones, when I get home.

You could opt to get the amp with the preorder to save a bit but you can also just not go with a amp bundle and see how you find the HM5 without a amp first. If you think the sound is a bit lacking or the headphones seem underpowered then look into a amp. You may end up spending a little more this way, but you might also save money if you find the sound to be fine without amp.

In the end its your own personal preference, there is no clear right answer apart from which ever one will put a bigger smile on your face in the end.

I'l probably order one of them without the amp and see what happens, I'm thinking of getting the HM5's as apparently the bang for the buck is the best for them, and the fact that I should get them sooner (pre-order ends sooner).

The HM5 are better for no amp, have a longer cord from going from your TV to where you're sitting, are more comfortable to wear, and sound better. Easy choice. I still think you should try to save $50 and get a Fiio E11 with them or at least the E6 for $25 in the bundled deal. It's money well spent.

That is something I didn't think of, I'm pretty much sold on the HM5's now.
