Now here's some juicy news. SmartQ have just announced a line up of 5 new tablets, all running Ti Omap Dual core CPU's with 1GB of ram. The configurations will be as follows...

Great to see a Chinese manufacturer getting a solid dual core chipset supplier and hitting the market with some reasonably priced, decently specd tabs. Have a bad feeling though they will prob not be available for any where near the listed prices once the exporters get hold of them.

I was going to say that's a big mess o' product announcement for SmartQ, but then guessing from the specs, the T19/T20 are the same device with processor/memory upgrades distinguishing the two. The T15 and S7 might well be using the existing T10 & Seven platforms, although they'd need to drill a hole for the camera on the Seven/S7 like they did for the Ten/Ten2 Plus/T15. That leaves the mystery Q8, which looks good apart from the ominously ordinary "8.0 TFT" spec.

So, for the skeptics keeping score, that's two all-new tabs from SmartQ this year.

EDIT: Forgot to congratulate SmartQ for finally breaking the $300 barrier :D

haha indeed, IPS seems to be the new buzz word in China at the moment. Hope they don't use the old S7 chassis as it was a bit of a chunky car crash. Yeah they're definitely using the The Ten2 chassis chassis on the Ten3, isn't too bad although I suppose 13mm is a bit chunky by today's standards.

At least on paper it looks like SmartQ are really fixing their game up though - decent prices, good specs, good chip manufacturer.

Also just seen the SmartQ Ten3 (T15) pop up for pre-order on another site for around $270 shipped, estimated stock date is 25th February. Not actually too bad at all when you consider the competitions pricing.

If the Ten3 is indeed using the same frame, that has be some kind of record: R10 > Ten > Ten 2 > Ten 2 Plus > Ten 3. Starting from 2010, there's been 3 processor overhauls (Telechips > Amlogic > TI), 3 screen technologies, one webcam addition, one back plate redesign and one change in frame color.

Now that's maximizing value from your platform. :)

haha indeed, tbf apart from the thickness perhaps there is not much to complain about looks wise. it may actually be a good thing, because while the chassis seems to have remained almost the same apart from the camera and colour change, they have clearly been trying to refine and update the components. Certainly come a long way from R10.

Obviously the lack of capacitive screen was one of the initial pit falls from early models and the previous AMLogic CPU was far from perfect. But hopefully with the Omap CPU and possibly better support from TI, they can finally knock the power management issues on the head. Lets not forget this is also supposed to have a 7500mah battery, which is actually about 570mah more than the iPad 2. Evidently their power management will be no where near that of Apple but i'm hoping we may actually finally see some respectable battery performance from a Chinese manufacturer. Not holding my breath though...

Incidently the archos 101 G10 models batteries are:

- Flash: 7450 Mah
- HDD: 7650 Mah

They also have 1280x800 non IPS regular TFT displays, 512mb ram, slightly higher clocked CPU on the turbo models and honeycomb. Real world battery performance has said to be between 5 & 7hrs. Not to mention a considerably higher price tag

Its very Ainol thing of them to do to keep renewing the same body hahaha.

I actually don't think it looks bad, at least the renderings, i don't know about how it looks in real life, but i can see the appeal of using the same design like this for tablets, its appealing and they save money.

It reminds me of LTPS back in the day, now most standard LCD screens for media players are actually LTPS. I see the same here with IPS. I am also pretty sure the huge surge in IPS screen on China tabs is due to the price bottoming out due to massive over supply and Apple switching to a better screen display for their upcoming ipad3.

I didn't think of that, but it's a good idea for them to take advantage of Apple moving on to a different screen display. I've seen some video reviews of these newer chinese tablets with the IPS screen and it really is an improvement.

I still find oled screens to be nicer, those screens are mainly made by Samsung and you can see them on all of the new galaxy line of players/tabs/phones. Colors and overall image resolution are much nicer on a oled than IPS.

I know IPS screens make it easier on your eyes when staring at them for long periods, does anyone have experience with using oled screens for long periods of time?

Keeping in perspective that high cost of screens is usually tied to R&D/Licensing initially, once its into massive mass production the cost of X type screen plummets, normally due to oversupply, case in point IPS screens. Very expensive when they came out, but as Apple ordered some 50 million from LG and Toshiba over the last 2 years (i may have got the manufacturers mixed up) the price of the screen has plummeted. The same may happen with OLED in the next year, if anyone can mass produce consumer electronics on the cheap its Samsung.
