I haven't looked much at the reviews about IEM from Brainwavz because they bother my ears, but there's more than a few reviews. For over the head headphones there's fairy detailed reports with specific sonic experiences about the HM3 and HM5 here and on headfi.

@aleki... as much as i love hm5, i believe hd650 is rather superior in term of quality..

I've read a lot of the reviews and many people say the HM5 can rival the 650s. That's pretty amazing since the 650 what, 3-4 times the price?

I believe the trick with the hd650 is that you have to have a great set up. Prolly something that above 500 dollars for each dac and amp. If using a budget setup for the hd650 and then being compared to the hm5 that might cause the confusion.. considering it has 300ohm for impedance as opposed to 64ohm of hm5.

Aleki stated that he is using a fiio e9 for his amp. While i would say fiio e9 is a good amp for its price, compared to high end amp, it will yield a very different result.

But thats from my comparing directly at a store in my city that lets me try everything they have. And they also have an expensive setup to try those expensive monitoring headphones they have. They tried the hm5 as well and they like it while they asked me how much did i get for, they said the price is very good for the kimd of quality hm5 delivers. However it is not hd650 :) i didnt try the hd 600 because they dont have one in stock.

Well then what's a good starter Brainwavs product that's pretty indicative of their house sound?

I would say get the beta iem with mic. Since u already have other iems and quite expensive ones as well. At least with beta u can use with ur phone... or tablet for video call. Its abt 33-35 dollars i think. And u can get it from amazon if theynstill have any.

I think the Fischer is the FA-003 and not FA-002. That's all mentioned in the headfi thread. Fischer is in Russia, Lindy's are for people in England, and I think the Yoga can be found in Australia. In the U.S., Brainwavz from MP4Nation are the easiest to get.

Hey D2K, I am back :D and am looking at these HM5 now.
I admit I haven't read all 20pages of this thread yet but I have one question.
I tried beats studio phones and the sound was really great. Have you had a chance to try theme and compare to the HM5?
I am going to go threw the topic now and see what users have to say too.

Thanks

Personally,I HATE any Beats products, very overrated IMHO. They are all bass and nothing else. The folks over on Head-fi apparently agree, lol. As for the HM5's,I think they are a great set of neutral cans, capable of being made to sound the way you want them to sound...and thats always a good thing to me. Of course,if your a total basshead, you might want to pass on these,as bass isnt the prominent attribute of the HM5's,if it was they wouldnt be neutral, now would they ;) Neutral cans arent for everyone, but for those that like to play with their eq's and mold and shape their music to their own likes, theres no better choice out there for that purpose.

I also *HATE* all beats products. They're WAY overpriced for what you get(you're basically paying for a name which is what I hate about them, that and they're mediocre sound quality). With that said, I'm not too sure you'll like the HM5's if you're big on bass because the HM5's will require an adjustment in EQ settings to get more bass.

agreed. i had to get the denon d2000's because i wasn't satisfied with hm5 bass when i listen to hip-hop. EQ adjustment didn't satisfy me either because the hm5's are so neutral i could hear the coloration added to the music when EQ is on.
ir's not that the bass is missing on hm5, i know it's there. i can hear it's there. but it's not prominent enough. now i use hm5 for music where bass is not a necessity because the mids and highs on the hm5 are just fantastic. i can feel the emotion in a singer's voice and they are forgiving of bad sources when it comes to sibilance and harshness on badly mastered tracks.
i'm very happy to own both and will most likely not be buying any more headphones till i'm ready to move into the 1500 and up range :-)

Not to mention that monster abandoned them at CES so now HTC is gonna be makin' those crappy drivers, LOL. Just read about what frequency response, square wave response, and total harmonic distortion are and then look at the data sheet for the brats line-up on innerfidelity. They're abysmal, TBQH.
