Don't you know anyone that has an XP machine? It's a shame to throw away a player that may be recoverable. Especially an OS-72HR.

My OS-72HR was messing up last week. I just re-burned the FW. No issues at all now. I still use this player every night.

Sochips are quite good and if its a sc9800 chip then it can pretty much play anything you throw at it.

I would also recommend trying to get on a XP to recover your OS-72 as you may not find anything right now that has a good quality screen like the OS-72 has.

I can't tell where you're located, but if you're anywhere near a big box electronics store you can your videos on the new crop of android tablets. Just load up a MicroSD card with some videos (multiple types of your usual media), go to the store, download MX Player through the android market (because the in-built players don't have very good compatability), and try to play the files. The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 played my 480p and 720p videos fine, and has a screen that will beat the OS-72HR I suspect (don't have one, so can't tell, but it's a super screen). Of course it's currently $279 USD, and it doesn't play my 1080p videos (which my SC9800 player does play).

Really though it's a shame to dump a perfectly fine os-72hr though... did you try to flash it in Windows 7? I mean it's dead anyways. can't get any worse right?

If you are on any sort of windows machine then just give the update a shot and see what happens, sometimes people do have luck running updates on W7 machines which people previously reported as not being able to work on W7 machines.

I hope you can get you OS72-HR back on line. It was my first chinese PMP and i spent months lurking the forums trying to find one with good screen. I found the screen to be great and it ran my AVI files perfectly.
