As I write this, I'm listening to Rush Moving Pictures(flac)on a nice new pair of HM3 headphones courtesy of Raz, as a tester
These are well made headphones, but also quite liteweight, a nice combo in my book. The cord is a good length and plenty thick, giving it a feeling it will hold up over the long haul. The earpads are soft and comfy, and at least in my case, fit over my ears well. This will of course vary depending on the size of your ears.
I have been listening to these ever since getting these in at 7 am today, literaly non stop, now going on over 7 hours, and they are as comfy as the moment I put them on, a truly pleasant surprise to me.
As for the sound, I usually dont comment before an extensive break in, but this time I will comment beforehand simply because many on here are looking for a reason to buy at the pre order price...so here goes:
All I can say, after listening to mostly flac based rock music, mixed in with alot of jazz/jazz fusion, is that they sound great! The balence of sounds, from deep bass to lofty highs, is well proportioned, with a slight push towards the low end. For over the ear cans, they do block outside noise very well, while blocking sound bleed effectively. I had my workers listen for me at obscene sound levels to confirm this
This brings me to the one fault I've found with the HM3's, they need an amp of some form to drive them to acceptable volumes. They just dont get loud enough without something to pump them up. I accomplished this a number of ways, firstly with the eq on my Vibrant phone(simply moved the levers all the way up on the custom setting). Then I used a Fiio E3 I had at my store, and both worked well without distorting the sound in any way. Any player with a built in amp(like the n2's for instance), would render this complaint moot, of course, so take it accordingly.
All in all, the HM3's are a fine set of headphones. I would not hesitate to say go for it on the pre order, they are well worth the money spent
As always, I will push these as hard as I can, with as many types of music as I can, and report back on the results. Hope this helped those on the fence about buying these
