MTK6516 phones is not quite old, but imho have lack of perfomance even in Android interface. MTK6573 is much more interesting and have Android 2.3

I have a cellphone already but I only to use it for emergencies or when I need it on certain occasions. The cellphone I have is very basic and I don't even use 100 minutes/year. As I am not a gadget geek nor a cellphone lover, I was wondering that if my MP4 player dies, can I use one of the cellphone sold here as an MP4 player without signing up with a phone company and without paying for cellphone 'minutes'?

I'm concerned about performance on these devices. how us the stability and speed of these phones running froyo or gingerbread on processors clocked at less than 500mhz? unless I'm reading the specs wrong and they're dual core?

You will need to check around for reviews of the specific phone that you are looking at. I know some phones have better stock firmware than others but most tend to have some sort of third party firmware development going on.

Hands On: Lenovo's Intel-Powered K800 Phone

Las Vegas – Intel's declaration late Tuesday at CES that phones using its "Medfield" Atom processor would ship this year was shocking enough. But, even more surprisingly, the Lenovo K800 appears to be contemporary, competitive, and even cutting edge.
