I think Alex will be giving a review (spoken) later today if he has the time, if not then it would be on Monday as tomorrow is public holiday.

Any date for availability of the black version?

I don't think Ainol are making a black version yet and the white ones are the only ones out.

I bought one of these and it landed yesterday. Had a play around with it and I am very impressed so far. Out of the box the unit feels very solid and well built. Its got a nice heft to it and looks a lot more expensive than it was. The trackball on mine works great and is very responsive. It's nice having hardware buttons on the side. I have an Advent Vega and the lack of hardware back button on that drove me nuts.

My unit came with Google Maps and Market pre loaded. It also had a few games pre loaded including fruit slice and angry birds.

Bootup is pretty quick and the screen is fairly responsive. Sometimes on the net you have to prod the occasional link twice but it's not a major hassle. All the pre loaded apps run very well. I downloaded N64oid though and Mario Kart was very laggy.

I dropped some 720p mkv files on and they ran perfectly and look nice on the high res screen.
One thing about the screen is in bright light you can see cross hatching of the digitiser on the screen surface. It's less noticeable if you max the brightness but the default brightness is three quarters

Overall I really like this machine. I am going to test tv out later so will report on that

The trackball works well but it works pretty much like any other trackball on other android devices i have used, meaning that it never scrolls enough with one swipe, which is fine if you want to scroll down a screen slowly, not so great when needing to scroll down a long webpage fast.

Lucky you, ours don't have either, what firmware version does yours have?

Just tried and can confirm that the NOVO8 doesn't charge via USB. Connects fine as storage but does not charge.

Raz, on mine the following details on the about screen:

Android version - 2.2.1
Kernal version - 2.6.34
Build number - V0520.12-C_CH@20110603

It was advertised as export version and stated that Market and maps only included on export version.

I will check for 1080p vid and post results

Quick update on this machine. My issues with having to tap links a couple of times is disappearing. Not sure if i am more used to the screen now or its wearing in but it feels more responsive now.
The 720p screen is fantastic for web browsing. Only scroll up and down required on nearly all sites i have visited. The narrow body of the device is perfect for thumb typing in portrait mode and much nicer to hold than my 10" devices.
I am so impressed with this machine. Its the best piece of kit i have ever had from a chinese manufacturer and puts a lot of £400 plus devices to shame. For £135 its a no brainer
