Ok so before I refound this site I purchased the mp4 player pictured below through ebay, I am assumming now after reading a ton on this site that it is some sort of clone of the onda. I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about this model the closest thing I have found to it is branded by Visual Land (also pictured below) which I cant find on the site either. I have listed the specs of the player below, but any help would be appriciated, I am wondering now if I should just turn around and sell it on ebay or if I should keep it an buy one of the new players with video out wifi in a fre months from here.

Basically I want to be able to mod it once I get it and am wondering if anyone knows anything about it. And why this model isnt sold here (I am guessing its probably because it sucks :( ).

Any help is appriciated,
Ellie

this is the one I bought

mmm .. the interface is different than the rebranded onda player, so it may not be the same hardware.

do you know what chip it is, it looks like the optimus touch player, but who knows, but i am guessing that this is not a true clone of the 858 players, but i cant be sure here, this will need looking into a bit before changing anything

again, what chip it it Anyka or rockchip????

the problem with all these damn clones it that whilst they may look the same on the outside, inside is a completely different matter!!!

I dont know which chip it has. Is there a way to tell that when it comes? Its suposed to get here tomorrow or monday.

I am guessing its not a true clone either and that the hardware is different. It has a 2mp camera suposedly instead of a 1.3,

I guess I will just have to wait till it comes and see what I can do with it actually.

The video that the seller had posted looked like it worked nicely and that the touchscreen seemed pretty responsive even with a finger so I supose that is good. Guess I will knock on wood and cross my fingers :)

Anyone ever heard of the visual land players? I think this is a clone of there VL-865 model

visual land on their web site has crossed my path before and they are just charlatans. They sell nothing but cheap old fashioned Chinese players, hiked up far tooo much in price, they are way way way way expensive, and though i will normally not diss other shops on this site, that place really pisses me off something rotten!!!!!!

i do not know what you paid for this device, and i wish you had discovered this site again before purvhase, but that is life. I really think this is not a clone of the onda players, only looks like the case, so as for the firmware well, visual land are famous ofr not giving out firmeware at all so i would not hold out much hhopw there

no, there is not really any way of knowing, usually site specify what chip it is but they do not

There vl865 model is not made by them at all, it is a generic player available from Chinese wholesalers. In fact you or me could buy the same player and call it "eko mp4 brand", get our names printed on the box and viola, your in business.

sorry to sound so negative but like i said, these guys are taking a massive advantage with their prices, i think you will have paid less that the $199 (4gb) .... whoaaaa hang on just checking that price ... yep $199 for 4gb player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol yeah I paid a lot less I paid 89 i think for mine, I couldnt even find the visual land website when I was trying to find more information on it. I am hoping that it will turn out to be better than you (and I) are thinking it will be, at least the working video of it in action looked like it is going to be half decent, on the plus side I have booked marked mp4nation and most likely when the new line of mp4 players com out sporting the video out and what not I will be purchasing a new one (hopefully this wont be to far in the future)

I love to customize my electonics, My last couple of years project has been creating homescreen layouts/graphics for windows smartphones and I was hoping to bring some skinning fun to whatever device I end up getting. So if I cant skin this thing I will deffinatly be upgrading to something else fairly quickly.

yep, skinning is fun, i enjoy this aspect of the chinese players. Best for skinning at the moment are the ingenics chip players, v2000se, vx747/757/767 etc and some rockchips. although we have yet to find all the images in the firmware for them

as you are a seasoned skinner do you know of any handy tools for tapping firmwares etc???

anyway the visual land site IS as bad as i say, i was there when writing the above post

tvout is out, basicaly waiting for the factories to hand over some goodies to raz and his team, we have the vx767 already, oppo s11 also and the new ramos 935 eventually, as well as many more to come so expect a flood of them in no time :)

I havnt done any actually skinning with firmware for a while so I am sure that everything has changed since I have been into it. With the smartphones you just write the xml code and then creat graphics to match. My site is listed in my profile is you want to check out my smartphone themes to see what they look like. They are all free, just wasnt sure if I was allowed to link to them. But it will give you an idea as to what I do as far as graphics go.

well I got the player and it works fairly well so far

Doesnt have any info about which chip it uses but it does in the settings have version info. The version info says

tv5568 mlc v3.0.2.4
hardware magic v2

I am guessing this is some sort of optimus touch clone (can anyone confirm this)

So I guess I am going to do a little searching on that and see what I can find. If anyone has a simular player let me know :)

I think when the new player lines come out Ill be upgrading.
