I read a lot about the different players but can't come to the conclusion which player is the best for divx/xvid files without having to convert it. To tell you the truth, if I had to convert the file, I would get the ipod touch because of the 3.5 inch screen. But I want a hassle free video player. Most of my files are tv shows encoded in xvid with audio as MPEG-1 Layer 3 (mp3?) and file size either 640x400, 624x352, 512x384. I was thinking of the Onda VX747 purely because it has a longer battery life then the other players but read through out the forum that a lot of files needing conversion to play properly on it. The same with the Ramos RM970, Ainol V2000SE, JXD402. Is the video problems mainly with other formats, or does it also affect the divx/xvid files I have? I currently use my Treo 700wx to play movies, but that 2.5" screen is just a bit too small due to its square display(2"x2").

Thank you all for taking the time to read and answer my questions.

just a quickie - are your files wrapped up as an AVI , RMVB is ususally the one we complain about as the playback aint that good and older rockchip based models were also dodgy (not the ones you have selected)

any way xvid and divx need to be wraped up in avi, or at least for the rm970 and i thnk also for the others, theyy do not play files with divx, xvid extension

welcome BTW :)

i ran gspot and its states that

Divx style "packed bitstream" AVI
AVI v1.0
Interleave: 1vid frame 42ms
Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves

so yes, it's packed in avi, so does that mean I wont' need to convert anything?
because I can't remember where but I read somewhere that these players will skips if the resolution is too big?

well if they are packed in avi then thet should be ok, i have heard mixed rsults from people and alot comes down to how their files are, there are so many variations on how vids can be converted and saved that i never for one min believe the statements about never needeing to convert
The point is really that you will never know until you get one and persoanlly i always convert to the size native to the player as is saves space and i can get twice as many on, i use a batch conversion utility and just leave it running for the night, in morning all done

look, do you know where to upload a sample and i can at least try it on the ramos and see how it peforms , a smallish clip or something

here's a typical video files that I would use

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7JJ8RTK7

also, do you think it will work on the Onda vx747, I really prefer the battery life on it.
can you tell me which player looks better?? The ramos does look better on the web, but I can't really tell.
If the Ramos looks much better, then I might be persuaded to buy it instead.

Thanks maderin1 for taking the trouble to answer my questions. Really look forward to buying one of the players.

well that did not go to well

i have RM970 player and this file played ... but not very well

It jerked about like it was skipping frames ans struggling to keep up with itself
To test the file i reduced the size only to 400x240 and it played perfectly, no problems

so, what did i tell you, no conversion pahhh, no this one did not work

what you need now is someone with a ingenics based player to test, and onda vx series or ainol v2000se, jxd 302

sorry about that

Thank you for the input. The Ramos was looking really good too.
Guess I can cancel that out.
The files that I have are the most popular ones that you can get off torrent sites for tv shows...

got a question. On my phone the treo 700wx, which uses windows mobile 5, I use tcpmp to play my video, there is a option to use one of the 3 or 4 different codecs to play video, and some codecs are better than others, does any of the mp4 player have something like that?

welcome to the forum.
i basically used a conversion tool and set the new size of the video to be 400x240 (the size of the players screen)

i used vidrop, a free editor available frem
http://www.mympxplayer.org/tool-vidrop- ... df785.html

once again, welcome to the site. hope you will stick around

BTW - what player do you own???

:)

So fast!
Thanks a lot!
I bought Ainol V2000SE (unfortunately not from here! :( ........ )
I have experienced some lip sync with AVI downloaded videos.
Greetings from Brazil!
