Not quite...
The big differences between android 2.1 and 2.2 are that 2.2 supports flash player, and applications give you the option to choose where they will be installed (internal memory/sd card) right from the begining.
All applications in android 2.1 are installed in the internal memory.

We (MIDnite owners) don't have this option and use APP2SD to transfer some of the applications to the SDcard. It's the exact same thing that 2.1 owners do.

I know that for sure, as my phone has android 2.1

Anyway I never had a problem with the internal memory as APP2SD does it's job well!

Cheers!

sorry not quite following there
so in 2.1 you get the choice from the start (sd or internal)? but in 2.2 you have to manually transfer to the sd card via apps2sd or via manage applications??

I think it came from Witstech A81E which looks exactly the same as MidNite but it has 256 mb of ram and 2 gigabite of Flash and Witstech was the most feature on Youtube reviews . Many people including me assumed that they were the same devices but they are not. I'm kinda bum since I'm sliming software like crazy just to get it to do basic stuffs that I like it to do like browse the web, read book and email and Face book stuffs. I deleted all the game and think that you need to choose between gaming or webbing. Now I try to find softwares that allow you to move it to SD card like there are many book reader and many of them allow you to move it to SD card.

By the way when you uninstall the App, does all the DATA stuffs deleted too cause I deleted Quick Office and it was like 48 mb but I got only like 20 MB out of it. Now I try to find Quick Office to install and delete it again. Anyone has the software that I can download?

-in 2.2 you get the choice from the start (sd or internal)
-in 2.1 you have to manually transfer to the sd card via apps2sd (only)

the first option doesn't work on the midnite so we need to follow the second workaround

right i see now, not working on the midnite will be due to having to hack the market app to work properly i assume

also, to confirm, apps2sd will only pick out those apps that have been set up for SD storage - correct?

dawoofa - use apps2sd - and never assume anything - it is a rebrand of the wits so we wil have to see if the wits really did have 2gb after all - either way its easy to get around with apps to sd as mentioned,

Android 2.2 allows for apps to install to SD cards, BUT if the app developer does not enable this feature on their app then you won't be able to use Androids built in SD card install feature, you will need to use apps2sd for apps that do not have SD card installing enabled.

Does Apps2SD very stable yet? Will I risk putting my Mid into a loopped reboot like I read someboby experience?

Once you open the appa2sd, it'll tell you what apps can move to sd, you can select individually, or select all. It doesn't work on mine (custom rom), it needs work around a bit, I just need time.

@dawoofa. The apps2sd doesn't cause it looped reboots. no risk.

I use latest fimware (2.2) and both launcher pro and apps2sd allow the transfer of an app to the SD card. BUT NOT ALL APPS. I do not know if this is simply because the app developer did not put in this facility. Both launcher pro and apps2sd will not move K-9 Mail, TuneIn Radio, Lookout, RotateD, Office Suite, Smart Bar, Launcher Pro to name but a few of the apps I have. They will move Kindle, Chess Free, RockPlayer, Root Explorer.

As someone commented the WITS Tech site and others do quote the WITS A81E as having 256MB RAM (same as MidNite) but they also quote 2GB internal memory as well as expansion capability via micoSD card. This internal memory is not quoted on the MIDNite but I am unclear as to where the apps (that are not on the SD crd) actually reside. When they are running they use up the 256MB RAM, but if I use Smart Bar to kill running apps the available RAM memory increases significantly. Is this just the data segment of the apps or do they actually reside in another piece of memory???

developers have to enable the option to move an app to SD, so you are reliant on them to update their apps
AFAIK there is 256 RAM (volotile) and 256 flash memory for persistently storing data ie apps etc

When you use Apps2SD, does it start up when boot up? Will you have to keep it running for the softwares that you move to SD to work? Will it eat up lots of RAM? I would like to move Rock Player to SD card but after you move it still work properly? I also would like to move Google map to SD, Can you use Apps2Sd to move this?

Now I slimmed down my Mid to the point that I'm happy. I can use Web, Read Ebook, use Manga Browser, Watch Vdo using Rockplayer, listen to Web Radio and looking at Map. No games on my Mid and I have about 100 mb left so I dont have to be annoyed by the Low Storage warning. :D
