Hi Everybody,

i just asked about this at slatedroid and they pushed me in your direction (stupid that i didn't come with this earlier)...
I really put some love into this post (hrhr..german sense of humor.. ) and therefore i post it almost unchanged here..maybe somebody (i'm sure.. under several "nero"-Nicks -(lost password everytime)- i found help almost every time) may give me a hint about my problem..

I just got lucky and made quite a bargain for my mom (just to get used to android tablets.. if she crashes the thing, i don't care) - A Debitel Onetab also known as 4G XST2. 4G just sells them here in Germany but i really would like to know on which China-Pad this tablet bases (maybe getting the market to run, gmail, google maps etc, those things are not installed).

It runs on a RK2818, Android 2.1, has 512MB Ram and 2 GB internal memory. Its 7" resisitive screen is pretty responsive and with pro launcher it's quite snappy. The trackball works fine and after using it for a while, i kinda missed it on my wits A81.. :D

This is the company which sells them here :http://www.4g-systems.com. Unfortunately the product-flyer is just given in German but the specs are understandable..i think. http://www.4g-systems.com/www//download ... online.pdf

I know that you, in order to identify the tab, have to see detailed pictures of the connectors - because the fact that my cam is so not pure bliss, i found those pictures on the homepage of the mobile service provider.

And to complete the important information there are some fact about the software..

(taken from AndroidsysInfo) :
OS :--taken from settingsmenu and about this device--
Quote:
Androidversion: 2.1
Firmware : 2.1-2010.12.7
Kernel : 2.6.25
Buildnr. : 2.1.0.18.Eclair.de.R.zmg.20101014.162937

from here on checked with androidsysinfo:
Quote:
Fingerprint: rockchip/XST2/XST2/trout:2.1-update1/Eclair/eng.zuomg.20101014.162937:user/test-keys
Android ID: Linux Version 2.6.25 (root@zuomg)(gcc version 4.4.0 (GCC) #311 Thu Nov. 4 10:10:45:33 CST 2010 rockchip 281X version release v1.08 (Archos) update wifi driver && set gpio reload && scu upadte

Hm...thats interesting.. what has Archos to do with this?
Quote:
Internal phone storage: Total: 259.96.. MB, Free 200.480... MB
Download cache :117.78.. MB , Free : 105.900.. MB
RAM : Mem total: 465280 kb
Memfree : 246376 kb

And the CPU, also taken with androidsysinfo..
Quote:
CPU:
Processor Arm926Ej-S rev 5(v5l)
BogoMIPS : 311.29
Hardware : RK28board
Revision : 0000
Serial : 00000000000000

From the look of it, it might be an apad 710.. but the hdmi-port is missing. ???

It reminds me a lot of the rocktab (although it's based on the RK2818 and runs with 2.1). or do i have to get new glasses? It's mostly about a working market (there is some crappy substitute installed). Maybe Raz with his insight in the chinese factories may recall something like that..

Best regards from Germany,
Nero

it could be anything at all - there are so many configurations of tablets out now its getting hard to label the more generic ones now - so who knows
its basically just a rk2818 tablet, built to the spec of whoever imported them to your country - there are several generic 2818 tablets around, some with capacitive, some with multi-touch some with trackballs etc etc - you see the picture

as for the market, well really if its rockchip it should have full access - are you saying that google market is not installed at all -

Archos also have a player like this, its the updated version of their home 7 tablet (rk based) so its no surprise that this build uses the same setup and base firmware

maybe thats down to the fact the player is being imported and sold in your country and that rockchip may only have agreement to install the google apps within china??
not sure how you would go about installing or getting the market, thats maybe one for the slatedroids or XDA developers

I kind of hoped, that it would be possible to install those apps ):. But because they are part of the os it would require to flash the device with an alternative rom, right? I think to make this possible, the only way will be to open up the tablet to see what board they used. (If i could only find any entrypoints..there are no screws at all..just the backcover and the display kind of glued into the case - i guess-)

Opening the device may very well ruin it and will completely void your warranty. If you still wish to proceed--entirely at your own risk

Do you have a guitar pick? Run it around the seam, carefully, you may be able to pry the two halves apart enough to see where it is latched together. Use the pick to press inward on these and you should be able to separate the two halves.

I don't know if opening up a device that no one seems to know anything about is the smartest thing to do

Well taking pictures of the internals would be pretty cool, if they are going to open it up.

Opening the unit won't really give you any useful information. You should try to see if you can get the firmware from the people selling it in Germany, you can then try and make a custom firmware with the missing Googles apps that you want, or you might be able to get some SD devs interested and help you with it.

Hi,

thanks a lot@all for your replies! The other night i seriously thought about opening it up and ended deciding not to. It runs..it runs well and for things like the market and stuff there i have my wits a81. The RK-Tablet was supposed to be for my mother to take her first steps with android devices but after trying, cursing, pressing the resistive screen, cursing again (omg i almost didn't recognize my mother..) she "gave" it back and "asked" me to look for another one with a capacitive screen. Jeah..whatever...sure mom :)

Okay, end of story, i'll sell it and will watch out for an Wopad with capacitive screen.. (unfortunately the wits with capacitive is nowhere in stock..and i think it would be too expensive for some "first steps").

@raz i have the firmware, they (i was really surprised that there is some kind of support) offer it on their homepage. If anyone is interested to play around i'd upload it, but for my part - i won't make my life harder as it is for a device i'll sell anyway.

@all Thank you very much again!
