I downloaded it from a link here on this forum and extracted it. It says it needs administrator rights to run. I only have one user account on this computer and it's an administrator. :O Windows vista home machine.

Now what? :|

I have an SD Formatting software but apparently I need to use the HP one for updating the device.

Thanks

Update: I went the control panel, user accounts, and found where I could turn off/on my Use Account Control (something like that) setting. Had to reboot, run the format tool, then change it back, and reboot again. It did let me run the hp utility tho. Is that the best way or is there an easier way? :\

You can right-click on the .exe executable file, select Properties, go to Compatibity tab and select "Execute as administrator".

I use the spanish edition of Windows Vista, I don't know if the english translations I've made are accurate.

I'm also having trouble with this HP Format tool. On all of my systems, Windows XP and Windows 7, the program runs, but all of the options are grayed out and you cannot select the Device, Filesystem, or Format options! Is there any other way to format? What about the native Windows Format? It can do FAT32. The card is accessible through Windows, so that is not the issue. Have turned off AV, run as Admin, etc. It seems to be this HP Format program.

Thanks!

You do need the HPUSB program as it writes boot code to the card.

Are you accessing the card via a USB card reader? The HPUSB prog only sees USB drives (its name gives a clue!).

There is no "boot code" involved.
It's simply about getting the geometry correct.

I have now purchased an external USB card reader and have formatted using the HP program, copied the mlo file first, then all of the others. So I think the card is ready. Unfortunately, when I follow the 'left volume button and power at the same time' routine, it justs boots as usual and does not seem to pickup and flash like it should! Could it be that it will not work with a 4Gb card, and only 2Gb?

HELP!!!!

THANKS!
