i think now there's a problem with the older screens not being fully supported by the new FW...
the older screens cant flash normally or totally not.

and for the overclocking, just let them stick to the 800Mhz, the 1Ghz speeds kill the battery and makes the unit very warm.

Thanks, Raz, for referring the instability problems to Wits. I look forward to the feedback.

No, i use an older screen version and have no problems, when looking to see if a fw has a problem with a particular device you need to see if it is happening on all i.e. white screens on all new screen MIDnites when 0831 fw being used.

If you have an issue with the new FW, please reflash.

This aggressive overclock is a disaster for some of us and a potential disaster even for those that seem to work.

My thoughts are keep the ROM to 800MHz and provide a means to overclock for the brave.

Please get some advice from WITS.
+1, don't want to lose wits .
If they will keep this overclock, then there is a chance that in few months there will be a lot of returns for repair...

The last thing I wanted was an overcloked A81, the processor was not made to run at these speeds ( Texas Instruments certainly does not recommend it). There is a IGHz version, but this is not it! I would not expect it to last as long as the 800 MHz version (which is actually overcloked from 720 MHz).

What is worrying is the fact that they would even consider overclocking as a way of addressing the bug list - sounds like the last resort of the totally desperate!

why don't they focus on the things that do not work at all?

All I want right now is a working battery indicator!!!! Without it this thing sucks as a mobile device!!!

And the sad news is that Adeptus doesnt have an A81e anymore - it was his custom rom that saved the day last time...

Neither will I soon. Sad day when the only guy who seemed to to be making progress with the firmware gives up! But then it is almost the 1st anniversary of the A81 which proudly advertised android 'soon'. :) Did mention this thing is useless as a mobile device without a battery indicator?

720 MHz beagleboard running 720p videos.

Given the date this was published, it could even be the 600 MHz version. I have the C4 board, and I can confirm it will play them, very smoothly and with the audio in sync. Now I realize the A81 is not a beagle board, but overclocking is not needed for this soc.

eh, its due to the android implementation that 720p does not work properly, the WinCE implementation for this can do 720p, but then again the factory has spent a lot longer working on improving the wince than android 2.2 just because wince for this unit has been out for over a year.

I don't think it's all devices from a certain batch or with a certain screen that can't boot this firmware. Just some random devices...
CPUs all respond a bit differently to overclocking because no two pieces of silicon are exactly the same and the CPU fabrication process isn't perfect. That's why Intel often take the flawed processors that don't perform well in testing and underclock them or disable the cache and sell them as cheaper slower models or celerons. It looks to me like certain A81e devices just can't handle running as fast as 1GHz, and like zuber said, the CPU manufacturer doesn't rate them that high, and probably for a good reason.

Well, I could be wrong, but I've tried flashing about 5 times now and I just can't get it to work. I'm pretty sure it's not a bad download because i tried both the single part and two part versions, and the extracted files are exactly the same. Ive tried it with and without the battery inserted with no difference. I have no trouble flashing 1019 or any previous firmware, so I know I'm following the instructions correctly.

I'll have to go back to 1019 for now, but I'll be waiting for a new firmware with a fix.

The annoying thing is that performance isn't even the problem on the top of everyones bug list. I'd be happy with the performance of 0831 or 1019 if it was a bit more stable, no wifi issues, had a working battery indicator and no shutdown flashes or long-press home button tor task list bug. Video performance is fine for me. I don't see the point of watching 720P video on a device with a screen resolution that can't handle it and with no HDMI out. I'd rather just re-encode the video for the lower resolution and save some space on my SD card...

If you mean "recent tasks" and how to go back to the open tasks try to push down home button, keep it held in and the press settings button. This will get you a list of open/recent tasks that you can press to go to them (same as pressing ALT-TAB on a WinPC...)

I'll make a post about this aswell, so everyone finds it easier...
