SmartQ have finally released a new firmware for the original T5. I have just loaded it and noticed a few additions....

> Slightly different colour background from the V2.0 Pre release FW
> Custom DSE option added
> Shadow text effect option added
> File Explorer option from main menu added
> automatic bookmarking, (picks up form where you left off when you re-load the same video file)
> minor issues fixed, more stability

Can't remember if some of these options were already there in the V2.0 pre, thats all I could notice. It is a lot more stable than the pre though as with the pre FW it would not read certain Id3 tags which it now does, and scrolling on video files was a bit messy in the Pre which has also been fixed. The only problem I can see is that you can still only view album art if the picture file has the same name as the audio file (rather than the album folder name, which it should be). And also when you enter file explorer, the title display has a strange gap between the last 2 letters like this >> File Explore r. Which is a bit strange.

Overall though a real nice update, further enhancing what I believe to be one of the best firmwares I have seen on any available Chinese player, glad they havn't forgotton about the original T5 owners too! Hopefully there will be more to come in the future!

no worries, let me know what you think once you have loaded it and if you notice any other additions.

OK.

It's good news! On my first attempt to load the new firmware using an empty card I was unable to get the player to work. I then loaded it on the card I was currently using. It worked. Looks good, this is only on a short viewing. I will check it more over the next day.

The good news bit is that it now recognises my Topram 8GB card as 8GB now. I also have an AData 8GB Class 6 card which I will also load the new firmware on to check.

Will let you know about that later today.

nice work tvh1108! glad to hear it's recognising your 8gb card now. Would be really helpful if you could let me know about the adata card too and whether it recognises all files upto full capacity. I really want to get an 8gb card. In fact I really want to get a 16gb card but I will never be able to test it in a shop as you need to put the firmware on the actual card! Any info you can give on these sdhc cards is much appreciated.

one thing that does slightly piss me off about the firmware though, is when you are listening to all your music in 'random' mode, but then while it's in that mode just want to play 1 tune by a particular artist (then continue in random mode) you cannot acess the song by artist-album-genre etc or it will start to only shuffle that folder or artist/genre etc instead of all you music.

Sere,

Yes the Adata card is recognised as 8Gb (7798 kB). I have 6GB presently on it.

That would be sweet if it could hold 16GB cards, especially now that the price for SD cards has come down so much

yeah for sure, would be amazing, the problem is having access to one to test as you need to put the firmware on the card first. When I have the money I may order from some online store that will take returns and just test one out. Or maybe if you have acess to a 16gb card do you think you could test it out admin? If it did support 16gb it would be sweet as I could finally stop using my Sony NW-HD5 mp3 player and wouldn't have to carry 2 seperate devices for audio and video.

Theres still a few glitches on the latest T5 classic FW release but I have faith SmartQ will iron them out soon. All we need now is for them to release a widescreen player with a 3 inch + higher res screen and they will be seriously challenging meizu for the best chinese dap manafacturer crown as they have some good FW engineers and IMO the right idea and plan when it comes to releasing players (e.g release fewer and refine the FW instead of rushing more models to market with poor FW). Hope they fix their shipping and battery issues soon too as their reputation is getting tainted by all these delays.
