Seems like nobody is mentioning Teclast players as are the more current ones like the C510HD not any good in reality?.

Ainol... the one name some people joked that they could have picked a better name lol.

Onda and their versioning and come and go models just turn me off.

I do have a Ainol V8000HDS and it was a great player for what it was until it just turned off last Wednesday and livesuit does not want to cooperate with upgrade and is giving a "no device that need to update!" popup instead when trying to install the img.

Edit: Forgot to say the player now works after update to last firmware as I had to ignore that stupid "no device that need to update!" popup instead of clicking OK.

I honestly don't like the haphazard styling of the Teclast players. Their renders look great, much like other brands (Ainol, Window, RAmos, etc), but then once you look closely, you realize the asthetics are nowhere near as appealing as they are in the renders.

onda are the worst for that, they have no clue whatsoever about styling, layout or design in any form, teclast are getting better, many just use whatever the default style/UI is, like many sc9800 players are using the same UI, like the ainol ones, teclast try and often fail, window and the new gen of rockchip widget UI look good but still have some oddities, but its getting better

I agree. My old OS-72HR is a tank, but the UI is boring. This and the s:flo were the only players I was interested in at Teclast. Its kind of sad to me because those to players in my opinion were some of the best that were released last year. This year, none of the Teclast players really catch my eye.

Ainol has fallen back on a default style and seems determined to sell the world 30 different models of the same SC98000 player. LOL. I love the new Ainols, but it's getting to the point where you have to draw out a family tree or a flow chart just to keep up w/ all the model numbers.

**edit**
I also like their new C-paper ereaders. I bought the K8 for myself. I like the fact that Teclast made an effort to lower the glare on these LCD screens to make them easier on the eyes and more energy efficient.

V6000, V8000, V9000 and what not and the letters afterwards does not help as the same letters for one model version may have quite different specs for another model version. If they were going to have so many fricken models they should have at least had more consistency with the letters and models. Like for example "HDA" is going to be a 4.3" LTPS screen with same resolution no mater if it was say V6000 or V9000.

The V6000HDT looks to be or was a excellent player for value, touch screen, 4.8" LTPS screen, 12 leds for back light and looong run time even on videos. If not for the 4.8" LPTS screen supply issues I would think that this player could have been one their best sellers and be supported longer until a good replacement came along.

This is a new 5" ICOO PMP that should be coming out soon. A slimmer version of the 5" model might be interesting. I've never bought anything from ICOO before so I'm not sure about their quality.

Your quite right about Onda and style, the new players we have coming from Onda can do what they need to well, but their UI's look like they were designed by someone with no color coordination (by that i mean even worse than me).

i have seen the color schemes on the new onda players and i am still recovering!!! luckily you can change the background image (i think one is cerise pink!!) and some they have adopted 3 different icons sets so there is vague hope!!!

When, where, how and why did Onda drop the ball, relatively speaking? I've been eyeing the VX580 as an update to my OS-72HR for quite a while now (mkv is basically inevitable these days), but I can hardly find any reviews online. Has anybody here tried one or even owns one?

I'm particularly interested in screen quality, I guess I'm spoilt from the OS-72HR's screen. How's the UI? And, considering that I've been bitten by the headfi bug pretty bad, how's the SC9800's sound quality? I have a used s:flo2 incoming, so that isn't a major concern. But I might occasionally have only my PMP on me and it'd be nice to be able to use that as an at least decent audio player.

i think all sc9800 players are made with the cirrus chip, same as in the cc1600 players (os72HR) - the UI on their sc9800 players is pretty much the same as the ainol sc9800 players as its kind of a default, only Onda have managed to screw u the main menu with ghastly colors and icons (as is their norm) - i dont think onda have dropped the ball of late, i think they could hardly pick it up, TBH
you can see the video review from raz on the 610 player, the other sc9800 from onda will be the same

sound Q is reported to be a little naff from the ainol guys and none of these companies will be modding in any way the settings in the player to enhance or add anything to the audio, it will be stock so i imagine they will all sound more or less the same
