It does not turn on anymore whether by hooking up to usb cable to back of computer (like usual) or by AC to USB cable that came with player (never did charge it but at least turned it on for some reason) nor does it turn on by way of power button. It cannot be the usb cable I believe as while I was out and having discovered the player did not start, I stopped by a store and convinced a associate to let met try a cable hooked to a laptop to see if it worked... nothing.

It was working fine without any hint of problems up till about four hours before I tried to turn it on again to watch some episodes. I had it hooked up by usb cable to computer using openSuse 11.3 and transfered files to it and charged fine. I unmounted the device and the player then changed from charging to usual screen and saw battery at 99%. Did not check to see if the player played the uploaded avi files or not as I powered it down shortly after disconnecting from computer.

Never did update the firmware since I got it back in March as I know it had V8000HDS.SC1020.0205 a

I now cannot get the player detected by either openSUSE 11.3 (worked fine with 11.1 before also) nor my Windows XP install, however the XP install is outdated since I mainly used Linux for the past few years.

I tried to run the Livesuite as mentioned in V8000HDV Upgrade Guide http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/viewtopi ... 69&t=16905 but whether I tried using the old firnmare or the most current v8000hds20100730 it always gave errors like "i/2 usbdriver failed" and "CopyDriverFile failed ! 123" and then "InstallRootEnumeratedDriver" then "add device failed!"

I tried turning it on by doing the buttons as mentioned on end of guide several times.
Quote:
2. Then press and hold the ESC button tightly.
3. Connect to the USB port.
4. While still holding the ESC button, press the power button for 3 seconds, let off for 3 seconds, then quickly press the power button 3 times. (In rapid fire succession)
5. Release the ESC button.

Since the player may technically still be off I guess waiting for the battery to deplete method may take awhile.

Try holding down the ESC button for 2+ seconds. It sounds like your screen may be locked (not sure if that prevents your player from connecting to a PC).

Tried it pretty much while doing the advice as I posted from guide, nothing.

Tried the buttons while on openSuse 11.3 and nothing either as openSuse would always detect the device and open Nautilus but of course screen would have also turned on and went into charging if player was working.

Sometimes using a different USB port on your PC or even a different USB cable can make the firmware process work again.

That's the only answer I have, is the, "If Player Appears Dead, And Is Not Recognized By Computer, Or Is Stuck In A Reboot Loop" part, which you already did. Hmmm, not sure on this one. Everything I know about it, I have posted on the guide. The only thing I can say is to use XP, and keep trying the recovery process over and over. Try using a rear USB port. Have seen this many times, that someone kept at it, and all of a sudden, it started upgrading. Good luck, hope you get it going again.

The other concern is the Livesuite giving errors so would the errors still occur even if V8000HDS was detected by WinXP ?. Yet to try on a Windows Vista computer (later maybe) for the off chance it may work.

The cable that is used for the PS3 controllers is the same mini-usb connector right? as I tried that one also initially in a different back USB port on both WinXP and openSuse along with the button pressing but still nothing.

One thing I noticed is that if this player can be disassembled, where the bleep is the screw like on V6000 lol or why is there no bleeping "Reset" button or such so even if all files and settings are lost due to using it, at least one can use that as a option to get things going again, especially for the average consumer.

If I were to get another player I would have liked it be as a addition versus a replacement as I may like to have a 7-8" PMP or even get a MID as the 5" V8000HD5 would be nice to have for more portability.

My method:

1) Hold power button for more than 10 seconds and keep holding it.
2) Hold esc button and keep holding it too.
3) Then, connect the player to the usb port.
4) Keep holding esc button and very rapidly press power buton more than 6-7 times.

The computer will say "new hardware found." :D

I save my player a few times with this method. 8)

Good luck! :)

Tried this first time and there was a flash ??? then I tied again and kept rapidly pressing power while holding esc and sure enough "new hardware found" popped up on taskbar.

Managed to point it to the UsbDriver folder and install but no LiveSuit window comes up.

You should have had the livesuit opened up, with the .IMG file already loaded. After you installed the driver, hit update on the livesuit tool. Go ahead and open the livesuit tool up, load the .img file, and hit update. Doesn't hurt to try.
