No silly, I mean if you're traveling, it doesn't take up much room in your suit case. I don't mean to take a suit case just to carry it in.

if you want to use a pad as something more than a browser then a keyboard is an essential - simple things like writing a reply on this forum thats more than a few words is a major downer, really annoying, i have tried and tried but just end up giving up, to the point of now not doing it at all - maybe its the apad thats quite bad or just me, but i think its general that on screen boards, even the ipad are not exactly usable

That's a turn off for me with these pads. Like you said, for browsing, yes, responding on a forum, or email, no thanks.

Perhaps you have a big thumb? I've found my self easy of use when typing on it with two thumbs. Just personal opinion though.

No one could write a thesis on them, but normal emails and blog post etc. are super easy.

TWP - I think you're just at that right age of when laptops were released that they changed your life and so your heart has gravitated to loving them more because of the nostalgia. Just like my good friend, he LOVES old cars, and guess what cars he owns, the ones from his college years. They hold that special place in his heart. Same principle here, you like new tech, but have grown very very fond of older tech. LOL :)

Yeah, whatever. I use my laptop about 2-3 times per year, lol. So what makes you think that? Who the hell wants to type on a screen? Takes too long, not practical at all. I guess you're just too young to understand, LOL   You take the cool factor over practicality.

EDIT: As a matter of fact, my laptop is an HP Touchsmart. You can use the onscreen keyboard, as well as hand write something into a forum, etc. Maybe that's why pads don't interest me. I have an all in one unit.

LOL, I too have a touch, windows 7 machine and typing on screen is GARBAGE....

My ability to adapt to the ever changing tech industry probably has to do with my age too (haha) - but I've been using android since Tmobile G1 and typing entire emails on my phone since then. So I've just grown accustomed to it, it's a relief to type on a 7" screen instead of a 3.2" so I welcome the change. Using swiftkey app also helps stream line typing. I can see why a Laptop is slightly better, but much heavier and bulkier and just ohh so late 90's!!

It is heavy indeed. I've never weighed my Touchsmart, but it's a heavy bastard. But also, it was free. My father in law surprised me with it. I never even wanted a laptop, tbh. I wouldn't have one if he didn't get it for me. I just wasn't interested in portability, I guess. I'm not a business man or anything. I always get done what I need to at home. It has come in handy a few times, however, when I took my wife to Chicago on business, and I was hanging around the hotel room all day.

theres an app for everything :)

the swype app makes typing easier. instead of typing in say 6 individual keys on a keyboard with 2 hands, you can just run 1 finger over the letters in one motion.

by typing this way, words sort of become a signiture and you memorise what each word looks like (almost like a chinese character)

the key difference between a pad and a laptop is the comfort in how you use it.

its like when PC owners say that PC gaming is better than consoles as it has the latest technology and you can move faster with a mouse...

the key thing they forget is that whilst the PC gamer is slouched over a desk, back bent, in the corner of the room, sitting on a hard chair, the console player is sat on his comfy sofa or bed, feet up , beer on the table, playing on a 50" screen :)
