notice the similarities in the UI to the new rockpad

i love the product images, seems they cant decide which way round the player goes

TBH i am surprsed how slow the android units are coming out for the bigger names, there has really been noting but the W7 and a couple of others but not really from the names we know, the 2808 tablets are all but non-existent and these newer 2818 units are slow to appear, its probably rockchip holding up the wagon again.

but we have seen many a theoretical player proposed but non in action yet, for this indistry its really surprisingly slow to release

You're probably right. The manufacturers always seem anxious to get new products out.

Perhaps they saw the debacle that was the APAD. You know, being prone to failure after slight bumps when being transported... that kind of thing.

This looks exactly like the Rocktab I just ordered. Except with a newer version of Android, double the memory and a faster processor.

Joy to the world.

But no forseeable release and with a bigger price tag also, it will be priced nearer the midnight price I would guess

True. At least software wise the RK2808 doesn't have any massive bugs running Android 1.5.

There is also very little indication that RK2818 will blow anyone away too. The best I saw was video streaming which was ok, done via QQLive.

Probably the biggest enhancement would be the doubling of the memory.

The gimped nature of the MIDnite really put me off. No G sensor or microphone. Being at the mercy of firmware upgrades to get basic functionality like video playback is something I just find all too annoying. Seeing that so many people are having problems with the GPS in Android doesn't sit well with me either. It just seems like a last generation Windows tablet thats had Android reverse engineered onto it.

The big thing that put me over the edge to get the Rocktab was the price. It's got solid video and audio support right out of the box.

I'm picking that the RK2818 will be cheaper than the Cortex in the MIDnite. Stuff like the Kindle app don't need more processing speed, just the additional API's that are available in later versions of Android.
