I would imagine what i want is simple enough. Yet I dont see anyone else really asking what i have been pulling my hair out trying to accomplish. Here is what i want; to remove the black borders off the DVD movie and make the screen fit my player. so that i dont see the black borders on it. I dont care that it needs to lop off a bit off the left and the right to keep the aspect ratio the same. Just do it! I own the G85 and V9000HDA players. both are 800x480.

I just want an end to all of this. There are times when i will grab a DVD and one program will work at doing this and the others wont, and visa versa. Today, i rented Wall-E, and none of these programs worked for me. DVD Catalist, probably would have but the DVD was split into 4 files and when i told it to join them, after a bit it crashed. The next closest one to doing it would be Moyea, they have a great option to edit the video, but they dont have any means of centering or keeping the proportions correct when doing it. Its all freehand in resizing it to fit.
I have bought 6 software programs geared towards converting DVD movies to my PVP.
The list is this.

DVDFab 7
DVD Catalist
GOM Encoder
Movavi Video Converter
Moyea Video Converter Ultimate.
AVS4YOU Video converter.

I have tried others as well, and i just can figure out why something so dam simple is giving me so much trouble. They make these person video players by the droves, so why cant i find a program that makes this all work. Its like everyone who wrote these programs, does not own one of these players. If they did, this black border issue would not be an issue.

Would someone, anyone please help me get a program that will allow me to do this, at this point in the game, i dont give a crap what it costs, if it works i will get it .

Try boilsoft video converter.

I didn't use the option that you asked with it, but with that program you can choose an output frame size adjustment, if you click on customize, you can clip left, right, top and bottom.

DVD's are 720x480, you say your screen is 800x400.

That leaves us with 80 vertical pixels that you don't have. That is why you have black bars. It doesn't matter what video software you use, you can't make the 80 pixels appear from nowhere.

I don't have either of the players you have, but they probably have a "fill the screen" zoom level which will remove part of the left side and right side image and fill the screen vertically while maintaining aspect ratio.

Isn't there a zoom function of the sort where it change the ratio of the video on the player on your V9000HDA?

EDIT - Matt beat me to it.

Well, the trailer of astroboy that is on the 9000HDA will not be filled whatever option you choose, there are always black bars on top and bottom. The weird thing is that i have seen it only with the trailer, with other things i have put on it it fills the screen but not with the trailer.

Maybe cropping the left and right side could solve this, but didn't try that yet.

Edit: Just to keep this in mind: mostly, you don't have this problem on tv-out. The tv that i use it with has his own aspect ratio settings and zoom settings so with tv-out i always can fill it to the tv-screen, for me the V9000HDA is even better then for example the HDVP-2 because it uses less power, more codec support, doesn't make a noise because of a fan. Afcourse it also has its negative points, like no "go to" option. If there are things you realy love to watch, wait till you are at home and make use of the tv-out option.

well this was a nice thing about the cc1600 players, they had multiple zoom options and you could fill the screen to many levels, but this is, i dont think, an option on newer player
as the video has been created the black bars will have been hard coded in (part of the movie frame) and so zooming will not make it go full screen as the player will already be full screen, as the bars are part of the image, this of course happens when movies are wider screen ration than the player being used

i personally convert to 800x480, i know this is basically enlarging the movie but the results are fine and still sharp but i always will get black bars top and bottom on movies that are wide screen, i did try and remove them but this caused problems as many of the older players screwed up their "full screen", distorting the video

i am sure there are programs that will let you select and crop what area you actually want converting but i dont know them,

Try Handbrake. It's a popular video for ripping dvds to any video format for different players, and it very well may have cropping/aspect ratio selection. Not sure if it's only for mac though.

Handbrake is available for Windows, Linux and Mac. It won't solve his problem however, as the screen of his player has a higher vertical pixel count than a DVD.

I will give handbrake a try, thanks.

So it seems to me that most people dont mind the black bars on the top and bottom, is this true ?

I don't mind black bars unless it was on something tiny like an iPod classic screen. Otherwise it just feels like widescreen.
