Here are a few tips to get your player working again:

1. Connect to USB cable, press the reset button in the hole located NEXT to the USB slot on the player. This should make the player be seen by your PC again as a rockchip device, then redo the firmware update.
2. Try a different USB slot.
3. Restart your PC.

Most times the issue with failed updates is with conflicts with usb.

thanks for the pics

the second one, of the update tool, did you take this after pressing the ERASE IDBB button, if so then something is not working as the text in the bottom left of the tool is not what it should be

i know this is a pain but is there any chance you have access to another PC, either XP, vista 32 bit? and try the update from there, i know it worked once on yours but this is odd

just to clarify, it was working fine, then you plugged the player inot the wall charger and this is when it went wrong??

also are you using USB ports on the rear of the computer

you only need to select the IMG file

mine looked dead also until i reconnected the USB cable while i was in the tool, then it recognized it again or you can press the reset button, it has to do with the USB drivers

I (tried) updating my S:Flo 2 to the 1.2 Firmware...
After successfully installing the USB drivers, I waited for the update tool to seem 'finished' (Pics of where the tool is at soon)
However, I can't access the S:flo from the computer, it's only visible as an unmarked removable disk - right clicking crashes My Computer, trying to double click it recieves a long delay, then 'The request could not be performed because of an I/O error'

Just another detail, the little box in the bottom left of the update program flickers occasionally from RK28 Rock USB to something.. 'Mass storage'

Thanks in advance, had to cut the details short because I have to leave pretty soon, so, pics soon if necessary

what OS are you using
if the box down bottom left is flickering then its not getting into the correct mode for updating/using
for now try disconnect and press the reset button on left edge of player and try restart it - to see if the player is still holding older firmweare

Right...
The computer I'm using to update the S:Flo 2 is Win XP, an old computer I had, which is isolated from the internet. This means I couldn't email pics from the XP computer to my main one, to post here, my Win 7. I could also not us a memory stick, the USB's seem busted or confused due to the S:Flo being in there - rest assured the S:Flo 2 was recognised before I started the update process.
Sorry if that part was confusing, anyway, in your routine 2 it mentions explicity DO NOT DISCONNECT, would it then be safe to disconnect the player and close the update tool? I've left it on most of the day!

Other than that, I purchased the S:Flo around November '09, I wasn't even sure if I needed to update to V 1.2, which was what I was doing.

Thanks for the support, please ask if you need any more details

if you were on 1.10 (which i would imagine you were) then yes, you need to go to 1,20 first before updating to and 2.x version (dont know why )
it should be straight forward and take only 5 mins so yes, you need to disconnect the player - stop and close the tool, disconnect the player, reset and try reboot the player - let me know what happens

Right, sorry for the delay, just been a bit caught up -

I should mention that after the update tool stopped its process, the S:Flo2 was recognised in My Computer as *two* disks, (I:/) and (H:/), both with the same 'The request could not be performed because of an I/O error'.
I noticed this as disconnecting the USB from the S:Flo caused both disks to dissappear.

So... after disconnecting the S:Flo, poking in the hole and resetting it, and rebooting it, the player was formatted. However now, when I insert the USB back into the computer, it comes up again as the two removable disks I and H rather than the usual 'Nationite S:Flo 2 player' or whatever, the thing with the Slash logo anyway.

So... Not sure how to progress to 1.2 -> 2.2 from here (Speaking of which, routine 1 explicitly mentions that it can only be used for 1.2 -> 2.0 OR 2.1, can routine 1 be used for 1.2 -> 2.2 aswell?)

~Thanks
