Hi,

I ordered this player, a few questions:

- i also have a smartq V5, i love it, but i loved to have a dedicated movie player for on the go and for sure for on the tv, so one device that i can use for in and outside the house. And a portable player also doesn't use that much power, the smartq V5 was not so good as a dedicated in house movie player, because it doesn't have remote, it has bluetooth but it's just not that great to use it for, i'm very happy with it for other things, and movies do play good but fot tv out and OTG it's not so good, the OTG is buggy, it disconnects very often.

Oh well, now the important questions: i bought it for a less buggy OTG ;) , the great screen, remote (i buyd it with the other things), the fast startup time, good battery life, touchscreen, and most important.. codec support!!!

I had the Mahdi player, no touchscreen, no OTG, no remote, TV out didn't work good... but codec support was great and had a great screen.

oops, now the real questions:

- Does this player play FLV files? the original specs doesn't mention it, while i have seen places where it mentions FLV is supported.. so... what is it?

- Aspect ratio: you scared me there... but... you can set it that it fills the screen right? i'm someone who likes that the screen is filled, also when the movie has to be stretched... don't ask me why, but i truly hate black borders :P that is wasted screen space man!! :P

- If you could test it... it plays wmv9, but does it also play wmv7 and wmv8 files? the Mahdi could play those all and more..

Greetings,

Steve

Not sure about the FLV and WMV7/8 files. if you upload some I will test them for you

As for the aspect ratio - there is the option to make it fill the screen - just means that the images streches slightly so people are stretched taller than they actually are (i.e. it doesnt crop to fit - but streches to fit the screen.) If you can deal with that - or really thin black borders, then it will be fine for you :-)

nice! thanks nmark - that helps explain it.

A standard tv rip (between 640x352 and 720x400) will look like the middle image, but with much slimmer black bars - maybe 2mm thick.

p.s. in the screems nmark posted - i expected that video to look like this - even a true 16:9 display would have black borders with a file of that resoultion.

The files I use are designed to completely fill a 16:9 display (like your normal widescreen tv)

Here's a review for this player: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... Edn4ErZjgw

At the bottom of page 5, there's a chart, and under it, it says, "VP6 encoded FLV video only test chip does not support."

Warrior Poet,

Many thanks for the link to the review.

As far as i can see, it doesn't support flv with Vp6, also wmv2 (=wmv 8) didn't work, and wmv1(=wmv7) was not tested, so i think it only plays wmv3 files. I was hoping it would play wmv1 and wmv2 also. But only support for wmv3 is better then nothing...

So for me the Mahdi player was still the best player for codec support, since that player did play wmv1, wmv2, wmv3, flv with VP6.

In the list with tested files, i could see that the codecs with 3 chinese characters in the table (the 9th column) where not supported and did not play. Also mov files with sorenson 3 are not supported. As for Realvideo, they seem to only have tested RV4, and no other realvideo files. I'm not sure wich realvideo that is, but the Mahdi player was supported with Real 8/9/10+Cooker RA/AAC.

So, little dissapointment of the not supported wmv1 and wmv2, FLV with Vp6 (but others seem to be supported). And the aspect ratio. But for the rest, if the OTG works good and the HDMI TV out is good, and most importantly, if the supported codecs play all very good without a problem then this is a very great player. I have seen in video's that if you go for example from 1 minute to 4 minutes later, that it takes about 2 seconds to get there. But if that means that the video plays good and no sync problems then that is great for me.

Greetings,

Steve

I HAD the Mahdi T951, but the battery died  . That's why i ordered the Ainol 9000HDA.

I tried to remove the battery in the Mahdi T951, and change it with a regular mobile phone battery, i think it would be possible, but the battery leaked inside, and it had broken the contacts. It still worked with the adapter but i have trown it away, the leakage of the battery caused some contacts to fall of.

I hope the V9000HDA has a better battery, any info about that? I have searched for dissected ainol v9000, and the V8000 but didn't found something that displays the battery for it. I have seen a user in this forum who had a battery problem also with, i believe, it was an ainol V6000. First i was thinking because of Mahdi is such a good known and good quality product then the ainol, until i did see that someone had also battery problems with the ainol V6000... Are there many other's that had battery problems like leakage with their media player? My Cowon D2 is still going trong with a battery life of 52 hours... and the new cowon J3 has 64 hours of battery life... the cowon is just the best of all for sound quality and battery life as a music player, not sure yet if i gonna get the J3, but my next mp3 player will be a cowon again, i'm pretty sure of that, i don't know of another player with great sound quality and great battery life like that. But it is not good for video playback, no real hdmi output, very bad video codec support,...

I think and i hope i will be happy with the V9000HDA, i looked for a long time for a player with touchscreen and good screen quality, OTG, remote, good codec support and this looks the one i needed. It seems to have less codec support then the Mahdi T951, but it supports the most video's that i have i think. Well, that would be a reason to upgrade to another player with better codec support and thesame or better things on the new player in a year and a half after this day :P. And if the battery survives, maybe my next player will be an Ainol also  ... Or, a Gemei one, If gemei had one with great codec support, touchscreen and remote, it would have been a Gemei player, because they also support PDF documents and i was also interested in that. PDF support is much better then FM radio support or mp3 player, and for sure if i already have a mp3 player with 52 hours battery life and great audio quality :P, because nothing can beat that for a few years.

Greetings,

Steve

What chip did the T951 have in it? I'll post on my players and chips page.
