This is pretty bad.

I was enjoying my player with the v. 1.1 firmware that shipped with it (second batch) ... but after reading all the posts about updating firmware, I decided to go ahead with the update process (even though I had a nagging reluctance since things were working okay).

Anyway, I followed the guide on MP4Nation, updating from 1.1 to 1.2 ... things were fine, though menus were in Chinese ... then I moved on to updating from 1.2 to 2.0 .... and it seems that things worked, but in the final steps, the player never rebooted ... I waited for about 10 minutes and then safely disconnected and tried to reconnect to my Win XP machine and *nothing* ... the player was not recognized.

Further, now the player won't even boot. I try to plug it in via USB to my Win XP machine and it's not recognized.

At the moment, I consider it Bricked(tm).

If anybody has any suggestions as to how to salvage my S:Flo, please PM me (or post to this thread on the chance that others might benefit).

Best regards and (painfully) ... falling back to my Sansa Clip (cry) ...

;-)

Hi, have you tried to reset it by sticking a pin in the reset hole?

that should indeed be the solution

Yes, I am very familiar with the reset function and indeed, I have tried this but to no avail.

The player remains lifeless.

I've tried the paper clip in the reset spot over and over, holding it for many seconds, holding it for a few, and every variant in between. Nothing works. Wish it did. I'm quite depressed to have to go back to my Clip for daily listening (it sounds ugly in comparison) ...

Seems to me, that if the firmware is botched in mid update, then the reset won't have much to reset to, but I could be wrong.

Any other pointers would be welcome.

Like I initially mentioned, I had a sneaking suspicion I would regret embarking on the firmware update process (if only cause things were going pretty decent with v. 1.1).

Oh well.

:D

There is a second reset hole next to the usb port, press that button while connected to the USB cable, this should make your PC again recognize the device as a RK2806 device, then redo the update. If you have any external USB drives, like an external hard drive or even card reader, remove them and try the update.

Thanks for all the help but nothing has worked. The player is totally unresponsive. Both reset "holes" have been tried, plug'd into to USB and not. No difference. The computer simply does not recognize the device at all.

I'm hoping I can send it back to MP4Nationites for help. Is this an option? I've only had it for a month or so, now ...

Thanks for any assist.
