wonder if this is real, so many times meizu fans release fan art, of this quality, and turns out not to be official - in fact of all those images there seems to be several designs anyway, which is the actual device??

Good question mad, that was the only links I had. Says there are 2 versions, "Update : There will be 2 versions of Meizu’s phone, the M9w compatible 3G WCDMA, and M9t compatible 3G TD-SCDMA China Telecom version." Perhaps this is why?

Here's a link from meizume confirming: http://www.meizume.com/meizu-m8-news/11 ... 2-1-a.html

I think the last image is supposed to be the actual model.

Personally I think this is all fan art/speculation. Meizu follows the Apple model of PR: plenty of fan speculation and hype, but the real stuff is locked down until J Wong says so....literally.

The news about different CDMA versions is old; China has three competing 3G standards (all variations of CDMA) and Meizu originally said they'd tackle all of them; more recently it's 2 out of the 3. The news about HDMI is interesting; J Wong did state there would be TV Out, although I can't remember if he specifically stated HDMI, so perhaps this is something new.

The story on Chinitech and, subsequently, PMPToday, Generation MP3, Engadget, and anyone else who picked it up stems from a story on Beareyes.com, not exactly a first-line source for accurate news.

The most recent pronouncement from His Wongness was about Android 2.1. I'm still skeptical that Meizu will rush into Android with all the work they've done on their own OS. Releasing Android for the M9 right off -and supposedly for the M8 as a testbed- practically ensures that a fair chunk of your users immediately abandon all the work Meizu has invested for the last 3 years. True, it may also attract new customers, but I could more logically see the M9 released and sold for a while before Android comes out. It's also Meizu we're talking about, which makes me skeptical they could completely customize the latest version of Android to their generally high standards in a short amount of time.

I agree. I mean, after all the work put into customizing CE, they're just gonna switch to Android just like that? Well, I just read this on MeizuMe a couple of minutes ago. Apparently, a version of the firmware with Android has been "leaked".

@chengdude you're probably right about it being fan art.

I don't know if its a bad thing if they DO abandon WinCE for Android, i think J Wong is seeing the same signs as other phone makers, Android implementation saves you bucket loads of $$$ in not having to make your own OS. The amount Meizu probably needs to invest to implement Android with the same slickness they had for the WinCE will probably cost much, much less.

Long term, jumping to Android would be the smart move than to keep customizing and fixing issues on a WinCE that microsoft has pretty much given up on.

Fair enough points. It would be quite an about-face, though. Last word on Meizu's OS from Jack Wong was about how fantabulous it's going to be, incorporating Silverlight and all the other goodies from WinCE 6 R3.

Then again, that was before MS did a little sidestep of their own with Windows Phone 7.

These are definitely all fan art. To be honest I can't really take Meizu seriously anymore. At the moment they sell one very buggy non-3g phone, that is their whole product range. Doesn't exactly fill prospective customers with confidence. God knows why they quit selling/developing media players, as it was essentially the only area in which they had any expertise. As per usual Wong is promising all sorts, but the final product will no doubt be very very delayed and probably very buggy. When you have thousands of android handsets to chose from, plus many from far far more experienced phone manufacturers, available subsidized on contract with all the usual guarantees/after sales care why would you bother with Meizu?

Back in the pre cortex cpu and android days meizu looked like they might have potential. But to put it simply they have been left behind. Ok it''s possible the M9 could be a nice product, but their pricing isn't even low anymore. Until I see some solid product with good reviews Meizu has nothing that interests me. They have still yet to prove themselves in the phone business.
