Hey everyone! I'm a new poster to this forum, but I've been reading your articles for some time now and they've been a great help to me.

Recently I've received my brand new pmp 'Ainol 8000HDW'. It's been working great so far, the only trouble I'm having is that I cannot
output to my TV, which is an ordinary model not HD. I'm using the TV's 'AVS Video-In' socket to connect the player and even though i can
see some image of the Ainol's menus, it's all greyed-out and distorted. I've also tried switching the setting of the incoming signal to every
PAL and NTSC format that my TV supports without any luck.

Any idea what's causing the problem? Could it be the cable, my TV or the pmp itself?
Is it that the 8000HDW doesn't support low resolution output?
Would it help if I built a cable to connect the pmp to my TV's other AV sockets that use SCART?

Thank you for reading.

Are you sure you hooked it up right to the TV? Here's a link on my G85 review, where the hook up is explained: viewtopic.php?p=188711#p188711

I just checked, with HDW you can only use component (red, green, blue) or HDMI, not composite (yellow plug).

Try standart component cable from Ainol add-on package. Use Green RCA for connect to composite "Video In" on TV. And use PAL or NTSC in output menu

First of all thanks for the quick replies.
Im not sure about the firmware version but my Product ID reports: V8000HDW.SC1020.0306
I'm using the RedGreenBlue 3-jack cable with Green jack in Video-In. Sound comes out ok.
As for the NTSC/PAL selection there's none in my player's menus. The only ones i see in my 'Output' tab are:
Output>
>Output select:
-Local
-External
>TV Format:
-HD Component (this gives the greyed/distorted image)
-HD 720p (this gives no image at all)

I used Composite cable (Yellow,White,Red) with HDTV out on the Ainol V9000HDA and connected to CRT 34" TV through Y,W,R inputs and I had a very good quality picture on the TV. In the player menu I used NTSC output, not PAL or HD settings. I hope this information will be helpful somehow.

Player settings:

Output on the TV:

Note, moire is made by a digital camera, not on the TV.

Thanks for the input nmark, i'm using the same connection method as you, though it seems your model has better support for various output formats.
I'm currently downloading the latest firmware from Ainol site version 20100430. I hope they added some extra features in output menus.

Yes, I use last firmware for V8000HDS/HDW - now composit output work (PAL/NTSC)!

Finally, the FW update did it even though the procedure didn't go as smoothly I 'd expected.

Executing update from Live Suite at first caused a BSOD on my win7 32bit, at the same time bricking my player.
Luckily after a reset I updated the usb driver and the second go was succesful.

Now i can select PAL-NTSC-480p etc. form my new output menu, and everything works well.
