Sorry i'm not very pc literate. I've recently downloaded the rar file with latest firmware for the ainolv9000hda. What is the procedure to get it onto the player.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yep, same process. The Ainol V9000HDA is equipped with the SC9800 chipset.

The Warrior Poet, thank you for your complete firmware update guide for SC8900/9800.

The good news is that V9000HDA fully support Windows 7 OS. Which means you can update firmware without any hassles on Win 7. I just did it. Do not need to look for Win XP anymore. But note, you have to do it under an account with administrative privileges.

At first a device was turned into a brick under a normal/standard user account in Win7. I did a few tricks to get it back to its normal operating condition, and then I updated the firmware under the administrator account. Second news for me was, the device can work under Linux. Copying media files to and from the device was without any problems.

Excellent news. I have seen reports of others doing this on other forums. I don't change it on my guide though, just because I know XP works for certain. Good news though. Glad it all worked out for you.

By the way, I have Win 7 32bit. I am not sure how it will work on 64bit system.

I know the SC8600 chipset players wouldn't upgrade using 64 bit systems. I even posted that on my guide: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=15674

Yes, Viste 32bit is fine. Remember, USB driver installation for V9000HDA should be done under Administrator user account. But the firmware update might be done under regular/standard user account. I made a mistake when I tried to install the driver under a normal user account. Driver install failed and the device has become a brick. Then I moved to an administrator account, installed the driver manually, and then updated the firmware on the device.

I'd just go with XP, if you have access to one.
