So, I am going on a missions trip in 2 1/2 weeks or so to South Africa, in Modjadjiskloof in the Limpopo province, and I was wondering, first of all if anyone on MP4nation lives, has lived, or has visited SA, and could offer me any tips while I am down there.

What I mean is: what are some things that I don't say to people ( things that may seem innocuous to those who aren't from around there), what are the customs regarding modesty, and what kind of weather can I expect? Those sorts of things. Anything that may be useful which is regional specific.

Just so you know - I am a male Canadian from BC.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance to any to decide to help.

LOL. What are we talking about here, cougars or car-jackers?
I am only visiting Johannesburg for 2 days or so. The rest will be spent in the safer north-east.

I have SA friends, all have said SA is a very nice place and at the same time very F'ed up, but not as F'ed up as the rest of Africa, so take that for what you want ;)

OK. Yeah, the lack of civil war is a plus :) .
Could you ask them about customs that may seem weird to "westerners" that they have?

Don't know much about there. Most of my friends whom had been to missions trip at the Mexico. I wish I could go one day to the mission and bring my kids.

I went to Guatemala, and it is a very good experience. It would probably decrease your stress levels by a fair deal ( unless you are no longer in that crazily stressful situation?).
I personally see it as an extension of what I do at home: help those who need help ( we feed the hungry) without any of the self-righteousness that a lot of groups have, instead do it because it must be done. They are people all the same as we are.

I think that missions trips are very good for allowing you to maintain an objective perspective, so that you do not become stuck in one world alone, and realize that other people have needs as well.

They said never stop at a stop sign and if you see a burning road block ahead, turn around asap and speed away :P

OK, good point. Burning road block? My camera will come in handy, I suppose.
