I recently downloaded the Torrent for the Telechips 89xxx devices. I must say, it yielded a lot of very good information on the boot process of the 89xx series devices. There's a lot of PDFs and other code that i haven't had the time to go through yet. However, it looks very good.

So far we know a bit about the 89xx series CPUs:
1. ARM11 (Dual core)
2. Total CPU speed of 800 Mhz (400Mhz with each core)
3. It's more than enough power to run FireFox (this is my primary objective)
3. Some other goodies that i'm too tired to mention (i've been reading a long time today)

The first clue that if found is in the document about the Development Boards. There is a 4 way DIP switch that sets the boot mode. I'm not going to bother rewriting the data that's in the documents as they're attachments to this thread.
In brief, it looks like we need to do 3 things:

1. Switch the boot mode to serial/USB boot
2. Compile the firmware tool (linux, but Cygwin could also do the trick)
3. Upload the new Firmware / boot loader to the device

it seems rather stright forwared, just like the Ingenic Development Boards. I'm doing some other contacting for finding out exactly how i get a copy of Linux or WinCE to work on this. A lot of these documents mention the Linux BSP, and WinCE BSP, yet i don't know where i can download these BSP packages from.
Telechips' website seems to require you to have a password to access any downloads and anything useful on their website. So I emailed them about that.

So far the only really new and nice piece of hardware that i know of which uses the Telechips 89xx CPU is the Chuwi P7L. Has anyone dissected one of these things yet? It seems that the most important part of getting WinCE or Linux on one of these devices is setting the BootMode. I did read that there was an option for putting the new Firmware ROM on the SD card and rebooting. Also, i read on the internet somewhere that is how you update the firmware on the Chuwi P7 (not the touch screen one).

Does anyone have any other information on the Chuwi P7L ? If i can get a little bit more verification about the board being able to be switched into a boot mode, then i'll goto the market here in shenzhen and pick one up.

Here's the Linux BSP stuff

BSP
http://rghost.net/716296

BSP Docs
http://rghost.ru/716253

This is getting good i think ^_^

there seems to be much more support for the Telechip CPUs compare to the CC1600 CPU.

Downloaded the WinCE and the Linux BSP archives. And it seems that the only thing i need now is a WinCE development system installed to my computer, and install the Telechips SDK, and i should be able to build a WinCE image for one of these MP4 players

;)

In terms of a Linux system, i'll need to create a build environment for the Linux BSP . I'll assume i'll also need to Recompile Firefox.

unfortunately you will not get any response from these companies, telechip or chuwi etc, they really are not interested im afraid

well i hope you get what you need soon, just being able to gte access the main file for the UI/flash file, or whatever it is would be good

have you browsed chuwi own forums or the imp3 forums

Well they told me i need to sign a NDA and "buy their product". And I told them about the company I have started, and that I have no problem with the NDA and buying their products. So...I don't see why they wouldn't reply back to me.

but no i haven't browsed too much on the imp3 forums, i need to do that.... If i want to possably blow about 500 yuan or so, i could just buy a P7L and tear it apart....and then look on the board for those DIP switches....but i'm focusing on the CC1600 devices for now.
I'm very close (i think) to getting linux on one of them ;)
