Been reading the forums here and other review sites and my head is spinning like Linda Blair in The Omen.

I'm looking for a PMP to watch videos on. I have an iPhone but the picture is too small. Here's what I'm (ideally) looking for:
* 5" screen (does not have to be touch screen)
* plays .m4v or .mov format (so I don't have to recode my existing video library)
* SD card slot
* priced in the $100 to $150 range (closer to $100 if possible)

I've read a lot of posts and most of the reviews here, including Ramos 11TE, Onda VH575HD, Teclast 500HD and I'm thoroughly confused.

I'm not an expert user (hence the iPhone) so any suggestions or help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.

Looks like we're in similar boats. Just posted the following at almost the same time as you: ;)

Just out of curiosity, were you waiting for Apple's tablet announcement (iPad), but were disappointed with its video capabilities, aspect-ratio, and/or price? That's how I ended up here...glad I did too... :) -dan

Not disappointed at all as I knew it would never be the portable PMP I was looking for.

Not too many portable devices play m4v apart from the iPod and mov support on majority of players either doesn't exist or is very poor (bad playback) so trancoding would probably be required for your existing videos.

There are 3 main media processors i would recommend and from those you can find players that use them:

- Rockchip RK2806 - Good overall media processor, handles videos up 1280x720, supports AVI, FLV, MKV, RMVB, but it is best at playing avi, flv and rmvb, people have said MKV do play fine, but other have had issues with their MKV files. The T8HD is a touch screen player that has the RK2806, i would recommend that player with this chip for video. I would have recommended the T11RK or the T12HD, but both have had their production stopped, i am not sure if this is just temporary or an indefinite halt to those models.

- The new Telechips processor - the current video playback king, although it may struggle to play mov files, it will play just about any other common video format with no problem and supports videos upto 1080p resolution. The Chuwi P7L is good, but again it is touch screen and smaller than 5.0". The T11TE would be a good choice, but it is more expensive than the P7L but have the exact same video playback performance, but it does meet your 5.0" requirement.

- The CC1600 processor - Recommended if majority of your video files are AVI. The OS-72HR is the definite recommendation for this chip, the screen on this player is very nice and high resolution. It only has a 4.3" screen, but the very high quality screen used beats out any 5.0" screen player right now. It isn't touch screen based and the buttons are easy to get used to. I would strongly recommend this if you intend to transcode your current library of video files to avi.

Hope the info help.

T11te does not play mp4 files just so you know at least not iPod/PSP mp4.

Are you positive? I'm sure it doesn't play protected (DRM) MP4 files from the iTunes store.

This review seems to indicate it can play regular MP4 files just fine though:

Specifically, A31 through A34 on this test chart:

Image

???? = play smooth
??? = does not support the

I can't find the other characters to translate, except for ??, which means "dropped frames."

Does indicate that it has problems with FLAC audio and non-AVC MOV files.

I'm new to all this though, and I certainly don't speak Chinese, so...

I made a post on the ramos forum asking to test my mp4 files on the T11TE. None worked and neither did a simple flv from youtube that plays on my T11rk. One of them is a trailer downloaded from an online website so I don't know but my files are not anything special. I don't encode them myself with any special preferences. Also the same files were tested on the newer t9hd and Mad tested it on the t51 (AKA Sflo 2)and it plays perfectly in both players. Maybe it plays other mp4 files but the ones that work on my iphone or psp it doesn't play so I guess it's just hit and miss but be aware that the T11TE does not play EVERY file it claims.

According to the same review above, the T11TE (and TCC8901 in general) can hardly play any FLV content at all. Easy enough to remux into an MKV though without re-encoding. I suppose the same goes for any MP4s too. The reason I was skeptical before was because the info was from a review (imp3.net) and not directly from RAmos. Anyway, yesterday I ordered a T11TE to play with, so it'll be very interesting to see what it can play and what it can't.

Hi, I'm pretty much looking for the same thing as the original poster. I have a large collection of movies in divx, xvid, and wmv. And also mp4. I was looking in getting a player with 5' screen. I've looked at the T11TE but it's a bit too expensive. The Chuwi P7L is more in my price range but it's smaller. If anyone is reading this and has a Chuwi, could you please respond with your experiences with the player. I'm also looking at the Nationite OS-72HR since so many people recommend it. Again, I would get the T11TE, but it's a bit pricey and I've read that they make another product without even updating the firmware of the old product.
