Just got home from seeing it.... and well ... its was a good movie.
but in no means an Epic film or anything close....

The movie was entertaining and fun :) , however i fail to see what the hype is about it and people seeing it twice.
I liked Terminator Salvation and Star Trek better than Avatar...

During the last fight scene, i kept imagining Dr Manhattan from Watchmen to join the blue people and annihilate the human fighters :P

i agree, a nice little movie but lacking in a plot that has not been done a thousand times , but plot was not what this movie was about, it was simple an experiment, for me 3D is lost after a while, once you have sat there for 10 mins or so, you need to keep takin the specs off and putting them on again to appreciate the very subtle 3D James Cameron created, a 3D that did not, for me create a new cinematic experience but just something a little different

it was good, and for 500million dollars to make it, so it should have been, plus, from all the rpeviews i have never liked the "style" they adopted for the world they created, it just was not to my tatste at all and im afraid watching it did not turn me around, could not stand the 6 legged animals and the whole look of the alien species was just a little ameturish to be honest

again, good movie but the 3D was not a revelation and the story was old, if no one else makes a movie like this then i wont be disappointed, overall feeling was that the film lacked feeling and passion and was overly long and frankly a little bit boring quite alot of the time

Got a good laugh out of that, Tristan! :D

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of it all. Highlight the word "experience".

For all of you 'young-ins', 3-D has been around since 1952 or 1953. The 1st 3-D movie I saw was "The House of Wax". I was 7 or 8 years old at the time. A few 3-D movies were made at the time but the fad fizzled because you has to wear those 3-D glasses. Three-D movies were revived again in the late 1950s but again the fad died. What makes a movie great is the content: good plot or story-line and good acting. How can you get good acting from computer generated characters that are supposed to be real? To computer enhance real actors such as in "The 300" makes for a more plausible empathy with the characters on the screen.

I have not seen Avatar so I don't know how good the story-line or plot happens to be. If all that this movie brings to the screen and to the audience is super hyped-up special effects, then it I liken it to comparing the poetry of simple iambic pentameter to that of Shakespeare. I would rather see the movie "Jason and the Argonauts", which had a decent plot, 'so-so acting', and rather primitive special effects by today's standards, than something that had a poor or rehashed plot and depended to make up for it by special effects.

Jason and the Argonauts and all those Harry Hausen movies had personality in bucket loads, even today they stand up for what they are, perfect .. no, but damn good stuff, Avatar lacked personality, it lacked anything to love about it if you see what i mean.

BTW - in our house the name Avatar refers to the cartoon "The last air bender" which we all loved and still do, so their use of the Avatar name has annoyed and confused my kids :)

anyway .. plot .. corporation inhabits planet and want to drain of natural resources, inhabitants would like to live in peace and MAD American General type character just want to blow em up to get the job sorted - stretch that out for 3+ hours and there is your movie - anyway, like the Transformers films its not about plot at all, in fact plot would seem somewhat of an inconvenience to these filmmakers - its about creating an experience, this time splattered with 3D and more animation than you can throw a stick at

3D is annoying the hell out of me, we know why 3D keeps coming back .. to get bums on cinema seats, with so many now having BluRay and massive home cinema systems, and of course people downloading movies has kept the cinemas a little low on turnout - so now we have to suffer a mass of 3D films that actually cost more to see - not impressed at all

I own Jason and the Argonauts. Love that movie. The special effects were awesome for it's day. Am I giving away my age? :P

I love the movie "Jason and the Argonauts" but my all time favorite movie of that genre and which also received an academy award for special effects was "The Thief of Baghdad" with Sabu. It was filmed in 1939 or 1940 and what also made it unusual for its time was that it was filmed in color. It was remake of the movie that was a silent film. A still later remake of the movie was in the mid 1950s with Burl Ives. But the true classic version was with Sabu. It had a great story-line and great special effects for its time. It was movie for the young and for the romantic at heart. It transcends generations. My wife & I loved it when we were kids many decades ago and we still love it. My grandson also loves it and he is only 4.

Sabu was in another movie classic, "The Jungle Book". The later remakes of that movie pale in comparison.
