New to the world of MP4 players. Used the excellent info on this website to choose and order (from ebay) an Onda Vx797HD.
It is very impressive! Could really do with a case and stand as it is heavy and rather large and sleek.
Decided to upgrade firmware from here;
http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... ID%3D13760This contains;
Drivers for the vx797 (in CHINA CHIP USB LOADER mode)
Software writing tool
New (v2.0 firmware)
You need to use the burning tool which comes with the same download, and you need to hold down some of the buttons on the player before you plug in USB to computer. This puts the player into a bootload device mode, whereby windows recognises it as a different device and tries to install drivers. These are in the package you just downloaded.
When the player is connected in bootloader mode - you can start the software writing tool.

You need to point the first 3 buttons to to the appropriate files from the download, and click the bottom of the two large buttons on the left button to go.
You will get a message to say "burning" on the software tool and on your player. This seemed to hang for ages so after 10 mins just unplugged it and it re-booted fine with new firmware.
Did not work with Vista and so had to reset and use XP.
The new firmware allows "games" which also allows you to run applications like the pdf reader. I can confirm this is working well and tried it with "Angels and Demons". Be patient takes 3mins to load.
See this thread for download site and more info;
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13490Hope this helps someone else. I am glad I upgraded the firmare although i had a few anxious moments after incorrectly flashing with Windows Vista and thought i had ruined the player. I found excellent advice on the forum, but basically just needed to reset, and keep trying to get to link to windows in bootloader mode. If you have problems you might have to delete any devices from windows device manager, and restart windows.
