didn't notice much improvements (im guessing its mainly to fix some bugs) in v5.3 beside from the addition of the Application in the main menu and options for TV output (NTSC & PAL). Load and exit time for videos seem to be somewhat improved over v5.1

i dont think they'll ever get that fixed. It probably got something to do with the CC1600? Another fixed I noticed in v5.3 is that when playing a video and you fast forward, the transition seems almost instant. Whereas before v5.3 there would be a slight lag after you fast forward to a different scene.

I don't find how to change the firmware, can you tell me ?

- Make sure you have the switch to "Off" position.
- Press these buttons together: Return, M, <<, Volume Down
- While having these buttons pressed, plug in the usb cable to computer (Windows XP only - tried Vista but doesn't work)
- The computer will detect a new device
- Select advance search and locate where you unrar the firmware 5.0 (Ex: c:/firmware)
- Select the teclast drive
- Once the driver is installed, load up the CC1600 tool (it's included in firmware 5.0)
- Select the first choice, i think it's "install driver" (Step 1)
- When done, load up the bin, DL, and HXF (Step 2, 3, 4)
- Select the second option (Step 5)
- On the player, you will see the message: Update firmare
- It should take less than 5 mins to update
- Then there will be a message saying it's complete
- Close CC1600 tool and reset the player. :)

I follow all the instructions, but I can't upgrade (for example the computer don't detect a new device), what am I missing ?

Hey spinto, did you make sure the switch is in the "off" position? If it's not in the off position then the computer will see it as a removable drive.
Did you see a notice from Windows saying that there may be an error with your usb drive? I would try to repeat the steps again (Return + M + <<+ volume down).

Warning: updating the firmware will erase everything on the player. Make sure you backup your data and remove the microsd card you may have in the player before updating the firmware!

Let me know if it still isn't working for you.

Edit: Make sure you hold the following keys: Return, M, <<, and volume down while plugging in the usb to your computer.

When I hold these keys, nothing happened, the player is not recognized as a mass storage, but I don't have a new device detected... I will try on another computer maybe.

Yes it worked, update successful, pdfreader also works.
I'm not sure, because I made a lot of tries but I'm quite sure it worked when I touched >> instead of <<.
