Is this common? I got my S:flo player a long time ago, and it worked great, but we stopped using it for a month or so. Now when I go to plug it in to change some music for my wife, for a trip she's taking, the PC won't detect anything. Am I missing something? Did I do something before that I forgot. I'm pretty sure it was all plug-n-play. The device charges fine, and still plays the music that's on there. But there's no way for me to change anything.

I tried my main PC (Vista x64) and my laptop (Vista x86) in various USB ports, front and back.
I have tried several USB cables.
I have tried restoring to factory defaults.
There is nothing unusual in my device manager under windows, nothing relating to rock chip that can be unisntalled, etc.

Pretty awesome how this device seems to have failed in less than 6 months.

EDIT - Just tested it on an old laptop I had laying around with XP x86 and it does the same thing. Just goes into charge mode, or whatever, not detecting it as a flash drive.

I shouldn't need a powered USB hub if it worked fine on my DESKTOP pc beforehand, about 3 months ago. On a laptop I could see this as maybe being an issue, even though I doubt it since my laptop is plugged into the wall and every other flash drive I have works fine.

So what you're saying, is that over the course of 3 months, the device some how fails to a point that it requires an additional powered USB device attached to my PC in order for me to access data on it?

The wife leaves in 5 hours, and I would like to get this solved if at all possible. Going out and buying a powered USB is not even a proper solution, let alone one I can test at 1:34am. Since the device worked fine 2-3 months ago when I first copied MP3's to it, it should be a non-issue.

I can't even format the player because no PC in our house hold (we have 4, 2 desktops and 2 laptops) will even detect that it's connected to it. The MP4 Nation utilities are worthless because of this. I've done searches and it doesn't seem to be a "rare" issue. Others have had it, yet no one has pinpointed an exact cause, or reason.

other have had it but not really like this as it was working totally fine before and that is the mystery

has the player been connected to all the computers at one time or another??

i am sure you have done this but check the cable thoroughly, ensure it is pushed in tight to the player and the right way round, dont be offended, just covering all areas here :)

shine a light into the ends of the USB cable and ensure all the pins inside it and OK, not bent or corroded in anyway

can you check device manager for me when the player is plugged in, do you see any reference to S:flo, nationite or anything ;like that, or any refs to failed devioces

sorry its not working, its odd that it would fail now as it was working before

No, it was only connected to my desktop PC, since my wife is not tech savvy at all.

Both cables are in fine working order, and work for other devices I have that use that style of mini USB.

Done, and done :( They look fine.

Nothing shows up. Zip, ziltch, zero, nada. I scoured every area in device manager as well as computer management (under disk management) and there's nothing. It's as if it doesn't exist :(

Here are some pics I took as I was writing this response, for proof haha (I get to use my new toy, Panasonic Lumix FZ2 8)

Nothing under USB or storage controllers or anything :(

are you using the original cable that came with the player?? or another from a digicam?? as it has been proven that some other similar cables are wired differently, especially where the data pins are concerned, many have tried other cables but they only allow to power player, like you see happening, - i assume you have also tried the original cable

vista is a known bitch with many usb devices, but if it was working before then ..??

I'm over 90% sure one of the cables I'm using is the original that came with the player. I only have 2, so one of them has to be it.

Well 2 of the machines, 1 desktop and 1 laptop, are XP, and it's not working on there either...
