 Gemei's new A320 looks exactly like the Gameboy Micro, but has the PSP's 4 shape buttons. Anyone know anything about this? All I've found out is that it plays GBA games.

shame on you :P

looks nice, certainly one of their better designed players (or atleast the rendering looks nice), but i have a feeling the buttons are going to end up feeling all plasticy and cheap.

Shoot! I didn't know there was already a thread for this! Could a mod please delete this thread of mine? - viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6235

I'll just copy and paste it here:

Raz, I saw this in your blog - http://mp4nation.net/blog/?p=293

Though it is simply taking various aspecs from the Micro GBA, PSP, and Mac, and cramming them all together, I'd say they did a dam good job of it.

Is there any chance you might get some of these in stock, and if so, how much do you think you'd be selling them for?

This player isn't so great if you already have X760+... because as far as I know its just rearranged X760+! It even have same chip JZ 47400 with 400MHz... Hah, as far as google translation is right it will even run same emulators and use same special controller (not wireless...) that maybe will be out.

yes, but style makes a big difference when it comes to mp4 players.

most mp4 players tend to have the same inards and capabilities (nothing new there), but the layout of the buttons and how well they are constructed play a major factor on players such as this, hopefully its game pas layout will be a bit better implemented than whats on the X760+

Does anybody have any idea when this is to be released?

Also I wonder if Gemei will release more emulators for this as they appear to be running with the gaming controls pmp's.
I'd love to see mame runnning on it, which shouldn't be much of a stretch up from cps1 and 2 on the X760+.
If these buttons are made from a hardish material they could be the best controls we've seen out of china on a small gaming device..

I got one of these for my son and its great. I wanted to get him a cheapish mp3 player that can also play games, it keeps him quite in the back of the car.
Originally I got him a DS with a RS4 card but for some reason the games kept on disappearing on the RS4, I got him a new RS4 card but the same thing happened again.

I then got him a gmini 400, which was o.k as you can play NES and megadrive/doom games on it but the graphics look really aged and there's nothing new written for it.
And its a lengthy procedure to get the games working. What you want is something you can switch on and start playing.

Finally I saw the A320 on ebay, the company that makes it is actually called dingoo, their webpage is dingoo888.com , they must rebrand the Gemei X760 and change the casing or something.

Overall impression
The unit only comes with a Chinese menu installed and manual :-( , I change it into English under the setting tab.
Its solid, the buttons are o.k but I did find that the type "L" & "R" button are a bit clicky

Music and Video play fine, no conversion needed - it be nice if these thing could play .mkv files but for now all .avi play great on the TV out.

Theres also a pic album viewer/ build in FM radio and a robotic sounding english voice that reads .txt files :?

Games
There are 2 menu option for games , 3D and interesting

3D- Some of the 3D games don't work and this causes the whole unit to freeze, you cannot switch off the unit so the only option is to put a paperclip into the reset button. Its pure trial & error finding out what 3D games work, then its a matter of connect the A320 to your PC and deleting all the games that freeze...not good

Interesting Games
Neo Geo games work great, no lag, on the bigger size games the sound seems to be disabled to help the game run - theres no way of enabling the sound, even if you choose sound on in the menu? But again the games that do work look amazing on the TV out. All the roms must be converted from ZIP files based on .bin into MVS files. ZIP files that contain .ROM files will not work- I believe this is the same setup as the Gemei 760

The is new firmware out which allows you to play NES/SNES/ CPS1+2 games but for the life of me I not figured out how to get them working. I put the .SIM files into the game dir and created new CPS2 and NES folders with ROMS but nothing will play :-(

Button layout
The buttons are ok but the real test to see if they are suitable for game play is trying to perform fireballs or uppercuts in streetfighter- I'm getting about 60% success-

The new firmware is 1.02 but again I have no idea how to upgrade it

Overall I'm very happen with the unit- it cost me about $80, a lot less that a new psp slim, it can play films and games on the TV, there are lots of "free" roms for the emulators and the unit does not look cheap compare to the other stuff I've seen.

I'm now waiting for the Oppo muse G11, which is the same as above but with a touch screen and hidden controls...

8/10 then overall

Thanks for the review. If A320 is similar to the 760+ then once you place the .sim file in the games folder it should recognize any game with right extension i.e nes.sim will play .nes games. The game folders are created automatically when the first file type game is played. Have you tried the GBA emulator? You can download that from the Gemei forum. My only complaint with the 760+ is the rubber directional controls. At least you get a 60% success fighting special move rate with the A320, with the 760+ you get...none well maybe 1 or 2%. Please keep us updated with anything new.

thanks DysfunctionalElf,

Does the A320 and the G760+ have the same underlying OS and user interface?

I think the firmware needs to be upgraded to allow you to play CPS2 games. I think this is done on the Gemei 760 by keeping your finger on the power button but I cannot find the correct method for the A320? Does anyone one know?

It does play GBA games straight out the box, the version is 1.0. All the games run smoothly.

My wishlist of this player would be:-
Doom & quake - surely someone can port these over

PDF reader:- is the OS locked or open - is it based on Linux.

SD Card- can this be used for anything else than storage- can I put a WIFI card in there and get some software that let me use this as a browser like a PSP.

Controller :- There is a option to use a external controller in the games menu- is this via the mini USB, has anyone tried it.

2 player mode for games- as above but one person uses the actual unit to control their player and the other guy uses the external controller.

I've checked the dingoo888 webpage but there's no email address to ask questions, only a phone number..
