Well it did have HD in it so hopefully it means High-definition video.

I've been hearing about this, hopefully i'll get to see this in early Jan at the HK canjam style meet up.

Fiio is audio, so no, I'm sure he meant "high definition" as in "96kHz/24-bit" or something like that. They're probably going to try something like the HiFiman or s:flo2 using a full-power DAC rather than a low-power codec. The obvious choice would be the Wolfson 8740 since they used it in the E7, but it's also been done with the s:flo2 so maybe they'd look at something else. Fiio is also a customer of Analog Devices and Texas Instruments...those would make for some mighty interesting choices.

If you read that whole thread from head-fi I posted, the manufacturer talks about the DAP. They were bringing up that they hoped whatever it was, it could be ROCKboxed, etc.

I have a feeling Fiio would set it up so that it could have Rockbox ported, they follow head-fi closely so i am sure they know how popular rockbox is.

I'm sure a small donation from FiiO to the Rockbox Project would make it happen faster than usual.

I am sure that would help, home Fiio doesn't lock their dap down.

I did slog through the whole thread; they did not define what "HD" was supposed to mean, nor discuss in detail any of the technology they plan to use.

Going over the whole thread a second time, James at Fiio said the DAP will not be expensive and then this:

We can not get the original SDK and I am not sure anyother person can get that! it is a special solution and that is why I said it had not been used in any other portable DAP!

so I'm wrong about the Wolfson 8740. Still could be some other DAC never tried in a portable solution. Thankfully, it seems we also won't be seeing another SigmaTel chip (*cough* AMP3 *cough* Hifiman *cough*) disguised as an "audiophile" solution.

They could be utilizing a simple samsung soc processor like the sansa uses on the model that got rockbox.
