Moving apps into SD card

Postby Rucha » Sat Oct 16, 2010 1:21 am

As we know Android 2.2 has killer feature named "moving apps into SD card". This feature should be supported by application. For example RockPlayer supports this feature.
But I cannot move no one app into SD card including mentioned above RockPlayer.
Steps:
1. Settings->Applications->Manage applications.
2. Locate the application (RockPlayer) and tap on it.
3. Tap on "Move to SD card".
4. "Failed to move application".

Why? How to fix?

PS: Custom firmware 831 with root.

I find the same problem, every time I try to move an app I get the above error message. firmware error (batch 2 midnite) or user error?

I've heard of an app called app2sd but know nothing about it... perhaps it would help.
MID: Nationite MIDnite (Absolutely love it!)
Media Player: Nationite HDVP-2 (Acceptable for the price.)
Headphones: SoundMagic PL-18 IEM; Brainwavz M1 ordered.

Make sure your card is formatted correctly, and insert it before you do a power-on boot.
(App2SD is basically a front end for the functionality already built into Froyo)
Titanium Backup Pro might be more interesting, but the bottom line is that the SD card should be working in the first place.

Make sure that the application isn't running when you try to copy it. It is locked by the system when it is running.
http://www.AndroMIDs.com - Firmwares, Custom ROMS, apps, howtos for the MIDnite and other Android MIDs.

Current setup:
MID: Nationite MIDnite (loving it (did after 5 minutes))
Portable Musicplayer: Nokia 5800 with Philips Bluetooth headset, Onda VX530 (mostly used by my daughter)
Video and Music player: Laptop with radiolink to multiple speaker systems, also Bluetooth connection to speakers (Belkin bluetooth reciever)
Nationite HDVP2 streaming from a Server with 2,5TB of music, movies, tvseries and photos via TVersity (trying it out)

millionmonkeys,

We are not talking about backuping apps but about moving apps to SD card for internal memory saving.

sd card is properly formated (just installed new firmware from it yesterday) and the apps themselves where not started. I located the proper apps via app2sd but no luck when I try to move them. It was the first thing after the restart, so non of the apps was running already.

The topic is discussed here - it links back to an original post on the witstech forum (no idea if it works):
