I was in the process of turning off my Midnite whern the screen went red, with white lines across it, and one part of the screen getting redder in intensity. There was also a hissing static-like sound. The only way I could get the unit to turn off was to remove the battery.

Now it will not boot up, on either battery or mains or both, SD card or no SD card.

Any ideas or is this device cactus.

Give a reflash with the latest firmware.

I knew reflashing with the latest firmware would be a suggestion so I tried that first but the unit does not respond at all to any buttons being pushed, and it seems to be warmer than it should.

Maybe it could be a short circuit between the screen and the power button (there have been incidents like that before)... Since you way you were in the process of turning it off...

This is more a suggestion to Raz and MP4nation to check and not to the customer (mikten) as opening the unit to look at this would VOID WARRANTY!!!! on the unit, which would NOT be a good thing, considering the state it seems to be in ;)

I'm in the same situation. But a little different. When my MIDNite was starting, the power went out (I have taken the battery off before that). Now, my MIDNite won't respond to any button I press, try many time, plug the charger in. It was also warm a little near the power hole.

I've just have my MIDnite (Wits A81E) for a week. It has never caught any GPS signal, now it dead...

Well well, I googled I found some good information on the Net, here what I did:

1. UNPLUG the power and REMOVE battery, leave it there for a few minutes.
2. Reformat my SD card using HP format tool, copy the files to my card (following the instruction here viewtopic.php?f=79&t=20515)
3. Insert SD card to MIDnite.
4. WITHOUT Battery, hold down the Volumn down (left volumn button) and plug the power cord in.

Oh my God, it was booted, and the flashing process started. Now I have my MIDnite working again!!!
